The engineer driving the Amtrak train that derailed survived the Tuesday night crash will play a key role in the investigation into what happened.
The identity of the engineer has not been publicly released, but authorities said he has already met with investigators.
The train's engineer initially spoke with investigators Tuesday night. He was treated at a hospital and then released and transported to the Philadelphia Police Department. He later declined to provide a formal statement to police and requested a lawyer, which he now has.
ABC News can confirm that they were reportedly meeting with federal accident investigators and other rail personnel this afternoon.

"Is there only one engineer at the controls? Isnt there someone else present with him?" Maybe they were both BUSY with EACH OTHER, if ya know what I mean. 2 males, male and female, two females.. Hmmm.

And since the Fed took over Amtrak, he is a Fed employee, Yes? So........no matter how guilty he may be, we can be assured he won’t lose his job. NO ONE LOSES THEIR JOB FOR MALFEASANCE OR CRIMINALITY IN THIS ADMIN!

How hard would it be to put a computerized speed governor on a train? According to some other articles there was such a device on the train, but it works with some equipment on each track section and that hadn't been installed at this location.

how can you not realize the train is going TWICE the speed limit? Fell asleep, passed out drunk, texting, talking, surfing net, prescription drugs, illegal drugs, or just dont give a shit? They should have TWO people at the controls. What if a lone operator suffers a heart attack or seizure?

Did something strike the windshield before the derailment?

ISIS said they were going to attack yesterday... It was on Drudge.

They should replace the one unionized engineer with a computer/auto-pilot, and a centralized control center where trains are monitored and controlled by a few supervisors.

Did something strike the windshield before the derailment? There appears to be some other damage on the same side of the locomotive. And the train did strike some fixed objects.

Maybe, just maybe he was struggling with a throttle/speed malfunction and didn't have time to stop the damn thing. I doubt if he fell asleep only a few minutes out of the station. Lets wait for the Black Box and other recorder details.

I want this understood.
This accident is Dagnys fault.
If she had rebuilt those tracks with the Rearden Metal instead of wasting it on building the Rio Norte Line to service that capitalist pig and earth raper Ellis Wyatt, after Wesley Mouch and I told her that it was needed in Pennsylvania for the Chick Morrison Special, this wouldnt have happened.

Did something strike the windshield before the derailment? And make it speed up to 106 mph in a 50 zone?
