Barry Bonds Going Forward With Case Accusing MLB Teams Of Collusion
CBS ^ | May 13, 2015 AST

All-time home run king Barry Bonds is going ahead with a case against MLB regarding his claim of collusion by teams that prevented him from obtaining a playing job following the 2007 season, people with knowledge of the case said.

Bonds has long contended that a collusion of MLB owners effectively ended his career following the '07 season, when he set the career home run record with 762 homers.

Sources say Bonds is working now on a grievance against MLB regarding the way his career ended. He could potentially file a lawsuit, as well, but he appears to be working with MLB Players Association now, as is allowed by rules, in an effort to address what he sees as an injustice.

Bonds technically couldn't file a lawsuit against MLB until the matter is first addressed through the grievance process, as the CBA doesn't allow it.

Bonds has said he received no offers to play after the '07 season, when he set the all-time mark, hitting 28 home runs for the San Francisco Giants while leading the National League with a .480 on-base percentage and 1.045 OPS. Bonds at the time suggested he'd play for the minimum if an offer was forthcoming, but none apparently ever came.

Commissioner Rob Manfred declined comment on the Bonds situation, as did Bonds' longtime agent Jeff Borris. MLB union chief Tony Clark couldn't be reached.

He’ll win due to complexion. And then they’ll put him in the hall for the same reason.

He was a #clubhousecancer and that is why no one wanted him.

Barry, you cheating bastard, go back to your hole. You don’t have a chance in a suit and are just wasting money and other people’s time. You should be banned from the “Hall” just like Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe Jackson. Not that I feel strongly about this...

A spiteful cheater who souped himself up on steroids and also a frequent player of the race card.

If I recall correctly his contract with the Giants expired at the end of the 2007,season. The Giants did not offer him a new contract . And no other team was interested in the 43 year old player.

Don’t teams make these personnel decisions all the time? I mean they simply don’t offer a contract? I think this lawsuit is going to be very difficult to prove out.

And isn’t it likely that no team was interested because he was declining as a player ???

He no longer was a great player and well past his prime. That, coupled with the fact that he was not type of person who would add “harmony” in the club house or serve as a good example for younger players is why everyone passed on him.

MLB should say “bring it!” Depose everyone connected to his drug use, bring out all the times he was a jerk in the clubhouse, burn what is left of his reputation to the ground and then pi$$ on the embers. Their defense should be that he was a bad investment as a ballplayer and bad for business because the fans hated him, plus not knowing the fallout from his legacy of doping.

If Bonds peruses this and MLB goes scorched earth on him, his chances of making the Hall go from slim to none.

True, he was a “declining player.” But, he was also damaged goods, a liability, and who wants a player who has crapped all over the MLB brand? Most owners have integrity and all showed that they care for MLB.

Not to be overlooked here is that Bonds was also indicted in 2007 for perjury and obstruction of justice in the BALCO case. Is it any wonder that a professional sports team wouldn’t want to deal with him under those circumstances?

I think the fact that he cross-dresses will work in his favor.

"He was a #clubhousecancer and that is why no one wanted him."

He was ALSO an enormous fan draw and best player in the game at the time.

As DH for an AL team he had a few more good years and would have hit a minimum of 25 per year over the fence.

On base percentage over .400 in his last year and the most walked man in the history of baseball.

He will not make the HOF. If he does, the writers are condoning dopers and cheaters. I always wondered if the apparatus that he wore in his right arm helped groove his swing. Supposedly it was for protection from inside pitches...I wonder??? I never trusted the guy after he bulked up and started the home run blitz.

BE GONE BARRY! (Bonds and Obama)

"Their defense should be that he was a bad investment as a ballplayer and bad for business because the fans hated him"

That's ludicrous.

Bonds was VERY well liked, revered even, in San Francisco.

Barry Bonds has never won a World Series.

The San Francisco Giants have won three of them since they cut him loose in 2007.

That pretty much says it all.

Barry, you’re old and off the juice. You had warning track power your last season, in a stadium built specifically to fluff your stats. That and you’re a jerk and nobody likes you. That’s what they call high cost, low reward and should have retired already.

Good luck trying to prove that. Bonds after the book The Game of Shadows came out was such public relations "poison" outside of San Francisco no team would have wanted him anyway.
