.....Shelton High School students were shocked and upset with what they heard in school on Friday. In an announcement over the schools PA system, students were told that prom dresses with slits, open backs and revealing low cuts would not be allowed at this weekends junior/senior prom.
Sheltons high school headmaster Beth Smith is threatening to turn students away at the door, though students say Smith encouraged them to show her a photo of the dress they were planning to wear so that she could approve it or deny it.
Im not showing her because I know it will be denied, said Alexis Birmingham, a junior....

Meanwhile, Valerie's man child is being pwned by Putin, her middle east summit is being shunned, Israel relations are at an all time low, the work force participation is crumbling, and the GDP is miserable.
But the networks are choosing to focus on whether Johnny will be able to get to second base.
Disgusting.
C-O-N-T-R-O-L.
Get them used to it early.
I teach in a small, urban high school. If anybody wants an eye opener, visit a formal dress shop. The dresses are nothing more than lingerie. Even in my economically depressed location (for decades), people manage to find $500-$1000 for a dress. This is not exaggeration.
Who is behind this? MOM. Kids can't afford these dresses. Why they feel the need to tart their daughters up and send them out in the world is beyond me. Then they are shocked when a young man treats them the way they are dressed.
I like the story of the father commenting on his daughter's dress. “You've got your dress on upside down. Its supposed to be high on the top and low on the bottom, not the other way around.”
In the long run modest mystery defeats skanky openness.
If you can't wear it to the prom save it for the wedding - or your first court appearance.
In my hometown were a couple of women who made formal gowns that ended up being considerably cheaper than the store bough over expensive stuff.
I guess I tend to think of a prom as being a somewhat formal event that indicates approaching adulthood.
Meanwhile, my daughters make their own. One-tenth the cost, fit better, look beautiful, and stand-out glamorous without being trashy. Yes, their mom is the one who taught them this sorceryinspired by the likes of Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn.
First court appearance? Heck, she was in court long before she could even GET pregnant.
“Get them used to it early...””
I absolutely agree with having some standards. I’ve seen some of the gowns on sale and they mimic Hollywood’s “fringe”. That being said.. there is also a “new” concept of girl body shaming that I’ve seen firsthand. I first started noticing it about 5 years ago... Last week, I read about a 5 year old being sent home from school for wearing a sundress (her back was exposed). Yesterday, my daughter’s teacher suggested to her that her sundress may be viewed as “wrong” by the principal. Why? Because some of her back was exposed. For any of the FReepers knowing dress designs.. it is a handkerchief design (tea length) with halter straps. Yes.. a 8 year old childs back is now considered “shameful”. So are girls shoulders. My own opinion is that the outfits haven’t really changed... the school system has. Why? I personally believe it is all about Islam. That’s just my opinion.
For what it is worth.. I sent her to school today wearing another sundress. (suppose to be in the 90’s). A hi-low dress with a t-back. yes.. her shoulders are exposed and sections of her upper back are exposed. Her dress is in no way, shape or form sexy.. it is an extremely modest sundress for the weather. IMHO.. anyone sexualizing a sundress for an 8 year old should register themselves as sick. I wore shorter sundresses forty years ago that showed my arms and some of my back. What has changed today is a newer body shaming for girls/females. IMHO.
Dress codes are a good thing, imho.
Okay.
Change it to FIRST PAROLE HEARING.
There is no such thing as “right” or “wrong”. It’s either within the rules or outside the rules.
For instance, you are never, ever allowed to have a weapon on campus for any reason....unless you are allowed have a weapon on campus. My daughter carries an illegal knife on campus every day and it is allowed because she is an Art major.
The problem isn’t the dress. The problem is she is not respecting the authorities.
That is, if the straps didn't get moved by sheer force of mental will of any hetero guy within 100 feet...
The dress is on backwards. The X line is suppose to be in the back. I bet if she was turned around.. the front would be covered. (I’ve seen that back design many times... never seen it before for the front. :)
Here’s the prom dress version of these. It’s name is “Sexy Sheer Beaded Prom Dress from JVN by Jovani.”

Luckily, I only rented that Nehru jacket for my prom.
