Dreyfuss, while he has remained a lib, has been somewhat rational for years. I don't think what he is saying now is anything new. He has been pushing for better civics instruction for years. Good on him for that at least.

He has founded the Dreyfuss Civics Initiative. He is working to bring civics instruction back into the schools. I've always advocated that, although I'm not sure what twisted view of the Constitution today's union teachers would actually teach.

Dreyfuss has for years been interested in “teaching.” Not enough to get a teaching degree but he is fascinated by teachers and that profession. Perhaps, like the wonderful Ron Silver - he has seen the light. I hope.

Dreyfuss is most likely just scared of the Monster he helped create. As soon as the people he despises (Midwestern and Southern men) minimize the threat to him personally, Dreyfuss will happily return to again despising them. Dreyfuss and Spielberg are smarter than most Hollywood trash like Clooney, Damon, Affleck or Harrellson, so their actions are MUCH more evil. They remind me of Albert Speer; promoting evil with the full knowledge of what that evil entails.

Villains like Obama and the Clintons? William F. Buckley once said that Dreyfuss was one of the few Hollywood types who would only speak out on an issue if he knew something about it. He said that even when he disagreed with Dreyfuss he always found him well informed and willing to take opposing ideas seriously.

I remember him very early in his acting career appearing on Johnny Carson. Another guest said something he disagreed with and Richard literally kicked his feet like a spoiled little brat. I’m glad he’s finally begun to grow up.
