(CBSNews) An Oregon family traveling with a 15-year old autistic girl was kicked off a flight this week for what the airline calls a disruptive situation.
The family calls it an outrage.
Video shot by a fellow passenger and posted to YouTube showed Salt Lake City airport police removing the family from a United Airlines flight last Tuesday, after the pilot made an emergency landing.
The girls mother, Donna Beegle, was shocked when officers explained why.
He said, Well, the captain doesnt feel comfortable flying to Portland with your daughter on his flight, Beegle told CBS News.
The trouble began halfway through the flight from Houston to Portland. Beegle says her daughter, Juliette, was hungry and started to act up.
I know her. When she gets over hungry or over thirsty, she really struggles, Beegle described.
Her mother says Juliette is a picky eater, so she asked a flight attendant if she could purchase a hot meal from first class and says she was told no.
Well, I said, How about we wait for her to have a meltdown and then she is crying and tries to scratch and then youll want to help her,' Beegle said she told the flight attendant.
Beegle eventually got the meal and said Juliette calmed down. Then came an announcement from the captain.
We were shocked to hear them say, Were going to make an emergency landing in Salt Lake City, we have a passenger in the back of the plane who has behavior issues,' Beegle said.

I have a question ..??
If you have a child with this condition - why on earth wouldn’t you bring snacks with you .. instead of making demands on others to meet her needs ..??
Just asking ..?
‘cuz the mother’s a whacko attention whore?
It wasn’t the daughter with the “Behavior Issues”.

Mom=Epic Fail
The mom is fully aware of her daughter’s triggers, and Mom doesn’t think ahead to control the triggers, and then acts surprised when they are put off the plane?
I particularly liked the part where the mom threatens the attendant. Real class.
C’mon Mom! Talk about setting your kid up to fail!
Quite the pedigree....
“Donna is the only member of her family who has not been incarcerated.”
What is “an authentic voice”?
Dr. Donna M. Beegle, is an authentic voice who speaks, writes and trains across the nation to break the iron cage of poverty.
BINGO
The pilot had no choice because the mother made it clear that the girl could become a physical threat. The outrage here is that this family selfishly cost all of these other people time and money.
That was my first thought.
We have an autistic daughter and ALWAYS keep snacks handy when traveling. And books/activities. That's just basic.
This should boost her speaking fees.
I also read she is planning on suing the airlines. Good luck with that. Maybe the airline should sue her.
The Captain is the Captain because he’s the Captain.
Stupid passengers.
“tries to scratch”
That’s a threat of assault, get off the plane.
I think the “hot meal” was the necessity. Those are hard to carry on an airplane.
Bingo!
Doesn’t plan ahead or pre-coordinate with the airline, makes demands and threats if they don’t comply with her demands.
I would support putting them off the plane based on the mother’s actions. I personally know a number of people with autistic kids and they know how to handle these types of situations without problems.
This reeks of a publicity stunt leading up to a lawsuit.
Mom dropped the ball, not the airline.
Mom should have anticipated that her daughter would get hungry vas packed snacks.
The article is missing some information: the mother did bring snacks, but her daughter refused to eat them.
