Social Security was never meant or intended to be a substitute for a pension or savings,

Well the private corporations got greedy and got rid of pensions. The savings accounts are getting less then a percent on your money and the Stock Market is good and bad depending on who you talk too. So how is it that people are supposed to have a decent retirement without SS? Social Security at least ensures that you are not homeless. I mean it is only 1300 dollars a month average. So due to the selfish companies, the horrible government and the economy that has never really been great, people who worked their lives are supposed to suffer? i guess so according to you. You could save every dime you made and put it into the Stock Market and if the timing sucks, you are in trouble.

“Well the private corporations got greedy and got rid of pensions.”

As is their right. There is no law requiring a private business to provide pensions.

...selfish companies...

As is their right. In fact, it's up to a well-managed company to be "selfish" since their first duty is to maximize profits. Companies have a solemn imperative to return as much as possible to the stakeholders. If cutting pensions achieves that aim, then so be it.

After all, the chief business of the American people is business. They are profoundly concerned with producing, buying, selling, investing and prospering in the world. I am strongly of the opinion that the great majority of people will always find these the moving impulses of our life.

I hate to inform you, as a business owner, I am not the welfare office. The deal is, you provide me value, and I pay you for it, no more or no less is owed. It is up to you to take care of yourself, not me. The greedy companies are those who took the risk, had the onions, to try and make it in this world. Some win and some lose. It is chances you take, and if you lose, you pick yourself up and try again. Most business owners idea of retirement is a pine box.
