Businessman Matt Bevin is the guy some see moving up in the Kentucky GOP governor's primary. Bevin also challenged now-Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) in a primary last year.
These two things are not distinct from one another. Now that Bevin's chances appear to be on the rise in the May 19 primary (thanks to Agriculture Commissioner James Comer's problems), here comes Team McConnell to knock him down a peg or two.
And boy do they. Here is top McConnell aide Josh Holmes on Bevin in a new Lousiville Courier-Journal story:
Josh Holmes, McConnell's former chief of staff and an adviser to his campaign, was even more critical, saying that Bevin can't be trusted and is essentially running to satisfy his ego.
"If Matt Bevin had moved to a state where he had a better shot at being elected to office as a Democrat, he would articulate the values of liberalism with the same conviction he now talks about conservatism," Holmes said in a statement.
"It's abundantly clear that his guiding light is to embrace whatever gets himself a little further down the road," he said. "If somehow Matt Bevin got into the governor's mansion his only agenda would be the commissioning of his portrait."
Ouch.

I post this to demonstrate the vindictiveness of Mitch McConnell.
I live in Kentucky and the vindictiveness of Mitch McConnell is worse than you can imagine. He is a despicable (barely) human being.
Harry Reid’s Bitch is the most underhanded traitor in the District of Corruption and that takes some doing.
McConnell will be remembered in history as the scum of
Kentucky who turned upon the voters for al Qaeda
and Indonesia and Iran.
“Team McConnell” delenda est.
Well he had lots of Freeper help. they deserve the credit for the coming hell they earned.
Fair is fair.
Now that we see that the majority leader has no intention of fighting for conservative issues, such as ending obamacare and securing the border, I wonder if all those folks who said he was better than a Rat still think so.
It is just so discouraging to see the Pubs get larger majorities and still they won't fight for the people who sent them there.
“Now that we see that the majority leader has no intention of fighting for conservative issues, “
Just wanted to point out that some of us saw this clearly before the election and tried to prevent it.
Do they have any vulnerabilities to exploit?
May McDorkell sleep with the fishes.
Tonight would be nice.
The way things are going, I don’t know. History is written by the victors. This fight ain’t over yet
I’m anxiously awaiting the photos of McConnell with the “Reid treatment”.
I know.
I remember a good number of conservatives argued that it's pointless to win the Senate majority and have it led by a big govt. corporatist. Until we wake up and refuse to re-elect leadership that fails to fight for conservatives this is going to continue.
I know if it's a "moderate" that gets the nomination to run for POTUS I'll be sitting it out.
I don’t remember any Freepers- supporting McConnel. Probably some opted for Grimes, if just out of spite.
Than your memory isn’t very good
Simple, we need to field better candidates where we can win. Aiken and Mourdock types might be good people, but they proved to be lousy candidates. A pro-life candidate should say “I’m pro-life”. And leave it at that. Trying to play theologian or gynecologist is not the role of a candidate.
Likewise in economics, a candidate should simply say “A worker should keep more of the money he worked for.” No need for the candidate to bore us with the intricate details of the tax code.
Likewise on other issues. We tend to select the wrong type of people, people with irresistible impulses to elaborate on the simple.
“I wonder if all those folks who said he was better than a Rat still think so.”
Absolutely no question better than that women who ran against him.
McConnell will be gone from the Senate well before she ever would be. It was important to keep her out of the the Senate.
Bevin deserves kudos for trying, but he fell way short.
I doubt he will do better for the Governorship.
And yes, this does show the pettiness and vindictiveness of McConnell who is pathetic.
Then you need to set the wayback machine for the last round of lesser evil posts because the rest of us saw lots of “He’s better than a democrat! garbage. They tried the same idiocy the Romneybots pulled. And succeeded at. Because it was the same leftists doing it.
I post this to demonstrate the vindictiveness of Mitch McConnell.

He wants to steal the Maryland Terp’s unofficial slogan of “Fear the Turtle”.
McConnell is nothing more than a vile, vindictive old man completely lacking in a morale core and lacking in the insight to be able to recognize that and correct his course.
