...If the document filed by Miss Morris paints an uncertain picture of Joni Mitchells future, it also hints at the tormented private life of the gravelly-voiced singer, who in her glory years had flings with the Hollywood lothario Warren Beatty and the musician James Taylor, partied with The Beatles and the Rolling Stones and saw her albums, with their confiding, confessional lyrics, go platinum.
Mitchells latest medical crisis is just one in a long line of threats to her health. An only child, she was just nine years old when she contracted polio. She defied doctors predictions that she would never walk again, recovering after treatment in a childrens hospital, where she sang at the top of her lungs, despite having already started smoking cigarettes which became a lifelong addiction.
Although she has complained of poor health for decades, it wasnt until 2010 that Mitchell first said she was suffering from Morgellons, a rare condition widely thought by doctors to be delusional, in which victims believe they are infested with disease-causing fibres and parasites. It was identified only in 2002 by a Pennsylvanian lab technician.
I have this weird, incurable disease that sounds like its from outer space, the singer declared.

LOL
Good one.
I liked “Shadows and Light”, with Metheny, Mays, Jaco and Michael Brecker.
She’s starting to look like Stephen King’s sister...
This is why I need to stop FReeping and get back to work. It was all I could do to not laugh out loud at this. Very funny - and too close for comfort!
WOW, I love Metheny and will have to download that one.
I saw that tour - easily one of the best shows I’ve ever seen/heard.
Album wise, “Hissing of Summer Lawns” is vastly underrated.
My fav is “Hejira”.
I also have CDRs of “Court & Spark” and “Blue” burned direct from the raw master studio tapes from a mastering engineer friend - superb engineering on those albums.
One final thought.
Joni did 3 versions of “A Case of You” but....
The absolute best version of that song is Diana Krall’s solo performance “Live In Paris” - light years beyond Joni’s versions in musicality and emotion.

The CD version (a different night/performance) is even better!

you forgot Lyle Mays, how is the DVD?
I did mention Lyle.
just ordered the dvd, looking forward to it.
That certainly could be.
I’m basing my comments on memories of the Grooveyard of Forgotten Hits lol.
I seem to recall there was a FR poster some years back, dont recall who or if that person is still posting here, that claimed to be suffering from Morgellons he or she posted many threads on the topic. And yes I got the impression from their posts that they were perhaps not suffering from a physical malady but was perhaps delusional, but then I couldnt say for sure.
Regardless of her politics or her personal issues or her health issues, those either real or imagined, IMO Joni Mitchell ranks as one of the best singer song writers of her era and beyond. She had IMO some amazing phrasing as a singer, and was an amazing song writer. She mixed together elements of both folk and jazz into a very unique sound all of her own and her very self-confessional lyrics touched on themes of love and loss and the pressures of life that many of us can identify with.
Yipes! We’ll need a professional opinion from Laz on this one.
Peri-dots and Periwinkles.
On Crossfire around 25 years ago. The only honest statement Mark Shields ever uttered : )
He was a rather confused head full of steam most of the time.
.
Tames Taylor is an excellent singer/musician, but a total piece of crap otherwise.
.
the “request” to “Shut Up and SIng” seems to fit....most admirably in this case.
