Ted Cruz: Why I voted YES for Corker Iran bill
TheRightscoop ^ | 5/7/2015 | RightScoop

Posted on 05/07/2015 3:55:30 PM PDT by gwgn02

Cruz- “This bill was a missed opportunity. If Congress had acted to defend our constitutional authority – if Congress had adopted the Cruz-Toomey amendment – then we would be able to stop a bad Iran deal. Instead, the odds are now overwhelming that under these ground rules President Obama will negotiate, and Congress will acquiesce to, a terrible deal that allows Iran to acquire nuclear weapons and will endanger the lives of millions of Americans and our allies.

“I voted no on cloture because we should have insisted on amendments to put real teeth in this bill. Ultimately, I voted yes on final passage because it may delay, slightly, President Obama’s ability to lift the Iran sanctions and it ensures we will have a Congressional debate on the merits of the Iran deal. I will continue to lead the fight to prevent the Islamic Republic of Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and to protect the national security of America and our allies.”

Not a good enough reason, IMO. Kind of a weak statement, actually.

When your back is against the wall, even a bad delaying action may be more useful than stomping your foot and letting the worst happen at an accelerated rate because you ain't getting what you want.

Not a really complex thought train. Too many would rather "just eat worms and die" rather than scrabble for any available inch - they are selling us out as complicit allies of the Left (all the while blaming it on others just like them).

The extremist label give the media an excuse to further demonize and push the meme driving possible voters farther away. Ted Cruz cannot become our president on conservative votes alone.

LOL I AM voting for Cruz! I still think that he should have joined Tom Cotton instead of Mitch.

The 'pure' meme was started by the GOP-E to cover up that Romney wasn't imperfect... he was a damn liberal.

So don't buy 'perfect'.

It is a lie started by the GOP-E.

Vote for Cruz and support him with real money. That's the way to make sure he wins.

That's the reason I'm sending Cruz real money.

Substitute the name “Mitt Romney” and what is the scenario then?

Reagan didn’t suddenly swing left in 1980, after all.

I have had a Cruz bumper sticker on my car (in Pa.) for almost two years now. It’s a head fake so people won’t suspect that I’m really for Jebbie? Oh well.....

Pretty much the way I see it — I’m behind ideals more than persons, the one constant in life is that, Jesus excluded, any human can let you down.

You have explained the obvious here every which way. If they don’t get it by now, they don’t WANT to get it. Good jobs here

Norquist is a turd.

It's Norquist's pledge and by signing his pledge, politicians are giving him respect he does not deserve.

Ted can say he's against taxes without signing the stupid pledge that serves only to bolster Norquist's ego and advance his anti-American agenda.

Yes, Anti-Cruz internet trolls are out in force over this matter trying to confuse and dishearten Ted’s supporters.

But it is hard to know who the lesser evil is; nobody would have argued that Ted Cruz was part of the lesser evil, and yet here he is, voting YES, when he could have just as easily voted NO and made absolutely no difference doing it.

Which means his yes vote is a vote to send a message, and the message it sends is “this is better than nothing”.

Do any of us conservatives here think this bill is actually better than nothing? I don’t see that argument.

So when your champion sends a message that you think doesn’t comport with your view of conservativism, who do you turn to? Who is the lesser of two evils?

On the other hand, if Reid was in charge, and had his majority democrat coalition, the bill could actually have been worse. Better is better than worse, even if it is still disastrous.

I’d rather have my house burn down in a kitchen fire, than have a plane crash into it while my family sleeps. Is that “voting for the lesser of two evils”? Sure, but in one case my family is alive, in the other they are dead.

The more salient question is, why do all the people were are told to support because they are “true conservatives” turn out to be less than that?

Who can explain how Sarah Palin’s candidate Kelly Ayotte turned into such a dissapointment? Marc Rubio was the tea party darling against Charlie Crist — is that one of those “lesser of two evil” votes that we should now attack Rubio supporters for?

The Congress has given up their right to over see this bill. Instead of Obama needing Congressional approval, the congress needs 2/3 vote to override an Obama veto.
To all you Freepers that said we must vote for the candidate that’ll win.
Republicans have the majority of both houses and they are capitulating more than ever with Obama.
How’s that for a kick in the pants?
