Whats the holdup with Senate Bill 353, anyway?
That bill, sponsored by state Sen. David Parks, D-Las Vegas, would ban whats called conversion or reparative therapy for people younger than 18, basically a psychological assault intended to turn a gay person into a straight one. Its been widely discredited by mental health professionals, but it still happens. The bill had a hearing back on April 6, but it hasnt moved since.
Why?
Its not the opposition: Only one witness opposed it, one whos known for somewhat exotic testimony. In this instance, the word salad ranged from musings about where the Regional Transportation Commission puts bus stops to preferences for red apples over yellow.

It should be denied him, because the standing claim is that the therapy in question involves electric shocking genitalia or whacking yourself in the crotch, and the testimony of a homosexual is like the testimony of a man in the Middle East, just saying...

You mean the same mental health people that for centuries had homosexuality listed as a mental illness?
What has been changed can be changed back.
If it’s “widely discredited” among mental health professionals and rarely practiced, then isn’t this more like a solution in search of a problem?
