Clinton aide’s emails face disclosure suit (Huma Abedin)

The emails of Huma Abedin, the top personal aide to former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, are now facing a disclosure lawsuit after the State Department failed to turn them over in response to an open-records request.

Judicial Watch, a conservative public interest law firm that uses open-records laws to pry information loose, had filed a request to get a look at Ms. Abedin’s emails during her four years at the State Department. News outlets have reported that Ms. Abedin also used the private email server Mrs. Clinton set up to handle government business, but the status of her messages is unclear.

It’s one of a number of open-records requests Judicial Watch filed after the email scandal broke, and Tom Fitton, president of the organization, said they’ve been stonewalled on all of them, so now they’re turning to the courts.

“We’re churning through these,” he said. “The scandal at the State Department is more than about Hillary Clinton. There are others involved.”

The State Department didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment on the lawsuit Tuesday afternoon.

Mrs. Clinton has said she turned over about 30,000 emails from her server, and discarded another 32,000 messages she deemed unrelated to business. But it’s unclear whether the messages she turned over were hers alone, or whether they also included ones from Ms. Abedin’s account or other aides who were using the server for government business.

Rep. Trey Gowdy, who exposed the private emails as part of his investigation into the 2012 terrorist attack in Benghazi, has urged Mrs. Clinton to turn the server over to a neutral third party while questions get sorted out, but Mrs. Clinton has refused,(snip)

Those should be particularly interesting especially if they included things of a shall we say “personal” nature

Thru an accident, those emails have been lost. What will be interesting her is how much effort is expended in defending the suit, and by whom.

I applaud judicial watch for this. I am amazed that none of the standard news outlets like CBS, NBC, abc, etc have sought these emails. It’s like they don’t want to know what the Clinton’s were up to/ sarcasm.

Ms. Abedin was already a government employee when she was given the designation, and the State Department has yet to explain what skills she brought to earn the special status.

If they have even a hint they're not gonna say.

I’m sure hummers response will be along the lines of “emails, what emails?”

Because they did not simply subpoena these computers and confiscate them immediately, I can’t help believe that this is all just for show. Does anyone really believe Hummer didn’t swap out her hard drive long ago?

Reportedly, she was also using Hillary's server -- whose hard drive is now either a puddle at the bottom of the Chappaqua incinerator or a shredded mass of metal at the bottom of the Hudson.

EVEN BEFORE HER INFAMOUS UN PRESSER---Fox has Hillary on video wherein Hillary tells an earlier tech conference in California: “I have, you know, an iPad, a mini iPad, an iPhone and a Blackberry.”

Did Hillary delete pertinent e-mails while subject to congressional investigation?

THE NYT REPORTED 3/27/15: Clinton’s review (and erasing?) of her emails did not occur when she was secretary of state ......or even shortly after she left office.

Last October, nearly two years after she left office, the State Department sent her a letter requesting all government records, like emails, she may have possessed. In response, she provided the State Department in December with about 30,000 printed emails that she said were government records. She has said that an additional 30,000 emails were personal.

It appears Clinton still has copies of the emails she deemed public records. Attached to Mr. Kendall’s letter was one sent to him by the State Department this week.

A letter from the under secretary of state for management, Patrick F. Kennedy, said that the department understood that she wanted to keep copies of those documents. Mr. Kennedy said that the agency had consulted with the National Archives, and that allowing her “access to the documents is in the public interest as it will promote informed discussion” as she responds to congressional and other inquiries.

========================================

ADDENDUM---The State Dept may also be facing charges of misleading a court WRT the court's request for documents...and for tampering w/ evidence.

==============================================

Cong Jason Chaffetz, Trey Gowdy and Sen Grassley need to start w/ the federal Office of Management and Budget (OMB)---theagency which funds the offices of ex-presidents:

<><> get the documents which list Sen and Secy Hillary's govt-issue electronic devices.....and whether they were returned;

<><> the entire range of tax-paid outlays to finance ex-pres Clinton....including electronics at his Harlem presidential office, his home in Chappaqua, hand-held devices in his possession....and ISP bills and records.
