HOUSTON - It's the middle of the night and your house is being invaded by armed men with guns who plan to take you hostage and take what they want. What are you going to do now?
What you decide to do in the next 15 minutes could save your life and the lives of your loved ones, or end in tragedy and death.
A special team of security experts with decades of experience -- Jim Napolitano, a former U.S. Secret Service agent, and Col. Bernie McCabe, former member of United States Special Operations -- is going to teach you the steps to surviving a home invasion.
My ultimate goal should be to protect my family from harm, end of story," Napolitano said.
It all starts with a plan, and that plan goes into action the second you hear the criminals entering your home.
With a typical family, both adults need to snap into immediate action. One adult is in charge of grabbing a weapon (usually a loaded gun) and holding off the attackers, while the other adult must rush in and gather all the children and lead them to the safe room, where that adult will lock the room down and immediately call 911 for help.

In the progressive states of Texas and Indiana if the police mistakenly raid your home because they didn’t bother to double check the address on the warrant (or if they don’t get a warrant) and you kill them in self-defense then the law is on your side.
As it should be.
Defenders - Man, wife and teenage son (altho I think the son never was physically involved) and the weapon was a katana.
Probable factors - Violence of action, mindset (total committing to defense of self and family), not afraid to die,
low light conditions and possibly somewhat confined quarters.
Outcome - Massive loss of blood and possible body parts by bad guys. No one died but it wasn't for lack of trying.
Note: The homeowner was not skilled with a blade and that day God smiled on him that day(lucky). It goes to show what proper mindset and not being afraid to commit or hesitate can do.

or just do what all these old farts on FR do - hunker down on your old commodor 64, chug that cheap bourbon, and armchair quarterback your way to safety while actually letting someone else do it!
Prepper’s PING!
I practice time on target a lot and will open fire on anyone who breaks down a door immediately. If it is a SWAT team making a mistake, I’ll be dead, but so will some of them.
Our standing SOP is the minute we hear our mobile alarm (Chihuahua named Coco) go off we grab the semi autos laying on each nightstand and hit the hallway one high one low. Anything coming down that hallway dies.
I did a small repair! ;-)
Add, have a diversion to draw the perp to a specific area. for easy capture, targeting, etc.
the law is on your side
Front Toward Enemy.
Start with the Benelli Nova Tactical then the AR-15 and it’ll only get meaner from there!!
“What you decide to do in the next 15 minutes...”
I’d guess it’s a LOT shorter time frame than that.
ALSO DO NOT SAY "stop or I'll shoot"... that tells the criminal where you are - he will then shoot you. Criminals don't use the rules of 'fair play' or they wouldn't be criminals. Shoot to kill - and kill all that come within your 'fatal funnel'...
Woke up on the wrong side of the bed today eh.
And if these armed men with guns happen to be SWATs and you respond with a gun or even a loud voice you will most likely be dead and all your possessions sequestered so that your survivors, if the rest of your family is not shot also, will have to have attorneys and a lot of time to regain some of the family property.
Ya know why people “prepare for the zombie apocalypse”?
The law might be on your side but the “law” won’t be on your side. No way is that story going to have a happy ending.
The ubiquity of unannounced SWATs argues for the possession and skill in the use of fully operational M-60s or at least AK-47s.
