Crater collapse causes lava explosion on Hawaii's Kilauea

Molten lava, rocks and gas went flying through the air on Hawaii's Kilauea volcano after an explosion was caused by the partial collapse of a crater wall.
The collapse triggered a small explosion, spreading lava and debris around the rim of Kilauea's Halemaumau Crater, the U.S. Geological Survey's Hawaiian Volcano Observatory says.
Janet Babb, a geologist with the USGS, compared the blast on Sunday to taking a hammer to the top of a bottle of champagne.

I wonder in the NPS Rangers are aware that people are sneaking into the no-go zone , at night , under the full moonlight ; to get 'a closer look ' ? Then something like this happens = crispy critters ....

Guilty! Back in 1987 a group of us drove to the end of the road, then 10 miles off road, then parked and walked across the cooled, crackling a'a & pahoehoe, right up to the edge of the Pu'u O'o lava lake. My leg broke through the crust as high as my knee, ripping to bone my right calf. I tied my AYSO coaching shirt around it as tight as I could, and later that night back in Hilo the ER dock Sister Mary Lou stitched it up.
But that moving and sloshing lake of lava was an unforgettable sight.

not likely ; because only one island is actually volcanically active and the hawaii volcano type is ‘shield ‘ , not strato volcano . Strato’s are the ones that blow up dramatically ( usually )
