AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott has asked the state guard to monitor a U.S. military training exercise dubbed "Jade Helm 15" amid some residents' suspicions of the U.S. government's plan.

Abbott's request Tuesday comes after some residents in Bastrop County questioned a U.S. Army commander during a town meeting about whether the government was planning to confiscate guns or implement martial law.

Ask? He’s the governor and they’re the National Guard...he can order them to do it.

How NPR headlined this story. Note: This is not a joke...it's their actual headline.

Texas Governor Deploys State Guard To Stave Off Obama Takeover

Unbelievable. On second thought, very believable, since it is NPR.

I just learned that Texas is larger than Alaska. (And 2x Montana which seems like a big place)

State guard. NOT the national guard. Different animals, different funding buckets.

“Ask? He’s the governor and they’re the National Guard...he can order them to do it.”

You’re mistaken. The article is talking about the Texas State Guard, which is NOT the Texas Army National Guard. The Texas Army National Guard is a Federal Reserve force, whereas the Texas State Guard has nothing whatsoever to do with the Federal Government, the Federal Reserves, the National guard Bureau (NGB), or the Texas Army National Guard. The Texas State Guard is solely a separate state military force answerable only to the Governor of the State of Texas.

It’s like he’s one of us. Asking the same questions we ask. Wanting accountability. He rocks.

Alaska is larger than Texas 663,267 square miles vs. 268,581 for Texas. Texas has a greater population, however.

Does anyone know the purpose of these ‘military training exercises’? I’ve seen other posts describing how the ‘exercises’ will take place so that the community is not disrupted. But, WHAT is the purpose for this; WHY the need for military training in local communities predominantly in southwestern states??? Thanks.

What I find fascinating with regard to all those mocking Governor Abott is the privilege of their hypocrisy.

When US troops deploy outside our borders, they are baby killers, kill women and children, massacre civilians on and on.

When US troops detain or hold order outside our borders they engage in torture and inhumane cruelty to pretty much all they encounter.

But when the Fed government orders a deployment of special forces to Texas, then there is absolutely no reason to suspect anything.

It highlights how the only true evil the Left believes in is the American conservative.

Similarly, police in our country willfully want to kill innocent blacks but there are no risks from a large federal deployment of special operations forces in texas.

The sense of selective outrage and moral reasoning privileged to the Left is ridiculous.

The U.S. Army in particular and sometimes the other branches of the armed forces have often conducted military training exercises in American domestic communities for nearly a century and longer. The U.S. Army conducted corps and army level military training exercises all across Louisiana and Texas shortly before the Pearl Harbor attack brought the United States into the Second World War. The following video is a Big Picture episode and represents one of many such television shows which were broadcast in the 1950’s and 1960’s demonstrating how U.S. military exercises were conducted in locales such as Virginia, West Virginia, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, and other states.

The purpose of this particular exercise is ostensibly a continuation of such military training, unless of course the people who ordered and organized the training have an intention to depart from past doctrine and practices.
