A police officer investigating a report of a burglary in northern New Jersey went to the wrong address and killed a dog that lunged at him.
Wyckoff police received a report of a possible break-in at 621 Lawlins Road on Wednesday.
Police Chief Benjamin Fox tells The Record ( http://bit.ly/1bYaZVi ) newspaper that Officer Kyle Ferreira went to 622 Lawlins by mistake.

Now we’ll have dogs roaming and looting tonight.
Step one: Check to be certain you are at the right place MORONS!
Step two: If not at the right place, keep going until you ARE.
Did the officer make it home safely?
Yeah, like the officer whose ankle was in the dog's mouth.
If the officer was your dad, your husband, your son, would you not want him to come home safe ?
JBTS Alert!
621 vs. 622
So in NJ the cops can’t even tell their left from their right.
Those address are likely on the opposite sides of the street.
This is such crap, people own dogs for two reasons, companionship and protection, so when a police officer goes uninvited on to someones property and the dog does its job, he should not be surprised and the dog should not pay with it’s life. At the least I believe these police officers should receive a minimum thirty day unpaid suspension when there is no justification for killing an animal other than the cops a pussy.
His ankle belonged in the dog's mouth. The cop essentially burglarized the home and the dog did his job.
What’s he do if rushed by a couple pit bulls?
Let himself get mauled to avoid punishment and being called a pussy?
The Pittys I know might lick him to death
Cop schools teach them to shoot dogs. I will shoot back on behalf of my dog. That's what is so nice about being in the last quarter of your years.
“What part of when there is no justification for killing an animal do you have a problem understanding? “
But you’re totally wrong when you say there is no justification.
Being attacked by an animal is good justification for killing an animal.
Getting mauled by animals isn’t part of the job description for being a cop.
What justification is there for a cop to stand there and let himself get shredded by dogs?
You are missing the point, IMO.
The cop went to the wrong address, he was given the correct address. That mistake was his.
A homeowner could have easily taken him for a criminal intruder and shot him, or he could have shot the homeowner who was legitimately protecting his family.
Yes, it was accidental, but the cop was technically trespassing on a private citizen's property. He had no legal reason for being there. Carelessness or incompetence is no excuse or justification.
The cop could have been killed, the homeowner could have been killed. The *innocent* dog was killed. Am I holding the cop to a very high standard? Yes, because it is absolutely necessary to do so when he has the power and authority to take lives.
That is the way the numbering goes.
So dude gets there, and immediately can’t determine which is the odd number side of the street.
At least it wasn’t the Hamburg chief of police getting treed by a bear as happened back in the 80’s.
Bail bondsman sentenced to 15 years in prison for bursting into wrong house
Officer safety is the mostest importantest thingy of all. Nothing else matters. Absolutely nothing. Not getting the address right. Not respecting the rights of the innocent citizen who now has to deal with a dead family member.
Only the cop matters.
