About 80 people who were arrested during protests and rioting that have roiled the city of Baltimore were released late Wednesday after spending two days in jail without ever being formally charged, and in many cases without ever being told why they had been taken into custody.

Baltimore police began releasing dozens of the people they arrested Monday night after protests over the death of Freddie Gray, who suffered a severe spinal injury while in police custody. The protests escalated in the city just hours after Gray, 25, was eulogized, with some people throwing rocks and bottles at officers, multiple cars set on fire and a number of businesses looted.

They didn't know why they were in custody?? It's not rocket science.

Probably because some political biggie....like Loretta....said to let them go immediately....or else...

By now the authorities have been so effectively confused, subverted and intimidated that they DARE NOT do their duty...even IF they still comprehend WHAT their duty IS

“dozens of the people they arrested Monday night after protests”

Don’t think they were arrested for “protests”. What about looting, arson, assault and battery, etc., etc., etc? Isn’t that more like it?

if you’re confused, this is what a govt sanctioned ‘insurrection’ looks like.

do you think a violent protest causing millions in damage by TEA party members would result in those members being free to leave?

this is all to stir up civil unrest (did you miss fedgov lowering fluoride levels this week) which will ‘allow’ them to push for marshall law and edge it closer to the permanent police state (less then a month before 0bamanet starts...)

From what I’ve read they did not have enough public defenders to move the cases, and not enough private attorneys were willing to do so for the crappy pay.

The democrats other candidate like to arrest lots of people for anything. 1 out of 6 people in Baltimore. Imagine him as president.

Gov. Martin O’Malley
In 2005, police made more than 100,000 arrests in a city of 640,000 people. More than 20,000 people were released without being charged by prosecutors.

"From what I’ve read they did not have enough public defenders to move the cases, and not enough private attorneys were willing to do so for the crappy pay."

Did I read the article correctly about 80 being released? I understand private lawyers not wanting to get involved in this racial mess plus not getting paid. However, in a city as large as Baltimore, they couldn't find enough public defenders that could spend 10 minutes with each defendant? Are the the city Courts that back-logged?

Not doubting you, but can you provide the source where you read that? If this actually occurred, it's open season for rioting thugs.

Unless my TV was intercepting news from another dimension, I saw in real time the following crimes:
1. Assault on LEO's with rocks and bottles (felony);
2. Breaking and Entering (felony);
3. Looting (misdemeanor or felony depending how much;
4. Arson (felony);
5. Disturbing the peace (misdemeanor);
6. Failure to disperse (misdemeanor);
7. Reckless driving (misdemeanor or felony if meant to cause harm);
8. Others I can't think of at the moment.

So why did the highly restrained cops arrest those who are now being released? They have to give cause in their written reports.

Please tell me you made a mistake and my blood pressure can return to normal.

New info: I went to Washington Compost which I never do just to research this matter from their always liberal viewpoint.

Here's their URL: Wash Post

Below are a some key excerpts and hope it's not too much for the rules of Free Republic:
"Authorities initially said most of the arrests were for attacks on property and people, including officers, and that they would continue to work to hold people accountable, including reviewing video and social media accounts.

By Wednesday as officers struggled to complete the paperwork needed to charge more than 100 people who had been detained since the unrest began, officials began releasing most of them.

State court rules require persons arrested to have charges filed within 24 hours of their arrest and to go before a judicial official known as a court commissioner to hear the charges and generally have an opportunity for bail."
