New Jersey Democrats Revisit Plan To Resurrect Millionaires Tax

TRENTON, N.J. (CBS) — The President of the New Jersey State Senate is resurrecting the idea of a millionaires tax to help fund the state pension system.

This proposal seems to come up every year at about this time. Governor Chris Christie has shot it down every time. With a pending run for President, it’s almost certain he’ll do it again. But Senate President Steve Sweeney insists the 2011 pension deal obligates the state to fully fund the plan. And it’s not like there aren’t options.

Not Christy's problem. Overpaid union pensions are the problem.

You’ll only be able to do this once and they will flee the state. Then what will you do?

Remember when they criticized our side for passing bills in the House that were sure to be vetoed?

This is another 17th Amendment-related issue.

More specifically, before the 17th Amendment was ratified, NJ Democrats would probably elect federal senators who would protect their state’s taxpayers by killing House appropriations bills which not only stole state powers, but also stole state revenues associated with those powers. And if such was the case today then NJ Democrats would likely have more state revenues at their disposal and wouldn’t need to bully wealthy state citizens to find more revenues.

The 17th Amendment needs to disappear.

There's an ongoing (perfectly legal) racket in New Jersey among wealthy residents as they approach retirement age. They buy a second home in a state with no income tax, then make sure they spend six months plus one day living in that other state -- so they don't have to pay New Jersey taxes on their retirement income.

My prediction is that this tax will cost more to administer than it actually raises in revenue ... which is a good indication that the lunatics who run the state government of New Jersey will adopt it.

Since most gov’t employees are essentially millionaires when they retire, the name “millionaires tax” is appropriate. The gov’t employees can’t stand that private retirements can have a balance in the millions that are usually at risk, yet they can have guaranteed payouts totaling millions at no risk.

Because people aren't fleeing the People's Republic of New Jersey fast enough.

Maybe New Jersey Democrats are so ignorant, they can’t even find Maryland on a map.
