LAS VEGASSen. Ted Cruz appeared to charm a crowded room of influential Jewish Republicans convening in Las Vegas on Saturday, presenting a withering critique of President Obamas foreign policy and pointing to what he said was his ardent support of Israel.
Mr. Cruz mixed humor with pointed jabs at top Democrats: President Obama, Secretary of State John Kerry and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The Texas Republicans was the first in a line of speeches open to media at the Republican Jewish Coalitions annual meeting here.
So tell me, is this the Ready for Hillary group? Mr. Cruz said to guffaws. You know the Ready for Hillary campaign has just announced they have their first title: the director of email security. He later did a passable impression of Jay Leno.
After speaking first on Saturday, Mr. Cruz immediately flew to Iowa, where he was to attend the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalitions summit. Also speaking publicly Saturday were former Gov. Rick Perry of Texas, Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio and Indiana Gov. Mike Pence.
Many other potential candidates have representatives here, and several GOP luminaries showed up. Former President George W. Bush was scheduled to address members at a private dinner Saturday night, representing his brother, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.
The conference kicked off on Thursday as the GOPs 2012 nominee, Mitt Romney, spoke at a private dinner at the home of Sheldon Adelson, the owner of Las Vegas Sands Corp., who is hosting the RJC event at his Venetian Resort Hotel. House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy addressed the group at a Shabbat dinner on Friday night and John Boehner was the featured guest at a Saturday luncheon. All of those appearances were closed to the media.

Ted Cruz Ping! Oh, is he in Israel? Doesn’t seem like there’s a lot of Jewish republicans here. :>}
Yeah. Never heard of any.
you know, I don’t even know if a ten percent swing in the vote of our Jewish friends would help. It would help in Florida, but I heard they are die hard dems, the older Jewish folk down there.
My Italians grandparents were die hard dems, but that was the last generation bless their souls. But that was a long time ago.
I wish our Jewish brothers and sisters of al ages woud recognize the threat to Israel and us.
Here’s one Jewish Republican, and I know some others. I realize it’s easy to generalize about the Jewish population in the US because of past voting patterns, but people need to understand that there is a trend in the “right” direction and let’s encourage it.
In 1980, Ronald Reagan got 39% of the Jewish vote. No other Republican since 1990 got more than 30%. Ted Cruz is smart to go after this vote, as he is smart to go after all of the voting blocks that the GOP-e has given up on, yet the “unelectable” Reagan managed to do reasonably well in (in direct contrast to the nominees chosen by the “smart” Republican strategists).
I agree. But I once saw a breakdown of where the Jewish American vote would help us most. It was interesting. Hundreds of thousands or more of Italian and Irish American votes are wasted in New York and that is a shame. But I guess that’s the way it goes.
You are right, it is a shame that so many conservative voters are trapped in places that we have had such little success in. But one of Reagan’s political strengths was that he ignored pundits and paid strategists, and appealed to people across boundaries, both geographic and cultural. I have a gut feeling that Cruz’ outreach towards Jewish voters will pay dividends, because it will be coupled with his natural appeal to the entire Reagan coalition. I know many people feel that the demographics and other changes have resulted in a situation where a Reagan-like outcome is impossible. I think the truth of the matter is the exact opposite. Whereas Reagan had to compete against a Democratic party that was still somewhat sane, Cruz won’t. The only reason that they have been winning is because we have put up candidates that don’t really differ, and haven’t offered a real choice.
I am not sure the Italian and Irish votes in New York are going to be wasted on Cruz.
Where you been? Haven’t seen anything from you for a while and wondered if you’re all good. Nice to see you/hear from you.
Impossible is nothing!! I like that quote lol.
I think Cruz will put many states in play.
But first we have to slay Chippendale (Rubio), the Spaniard (bush) and Bellevue is waiting (Paul)
The Spaniard’s 100 million bucks scares me. We know people are gullible and he will run ads around the clock later on
Here’s a headline they should run
“Hillary Clinton Courts Saudi Arabian Monarchs”
or
“Hillary Clinton Courts Russian Uranium Moguls”
I thing 7 years of Obama he has lost 1/3 of his Jewish support. Dems could face a crisis in cash if enough GOP candidates show the gap in support Israelis notice between Dems like Kerry , Biden, Clinton, Indyk and Obama vs. Boehner, BB Netanyahu’s friend Mitt Romney, Bush, Cruz, Perry, Huckabee, Palin. GOP is now way more Pro Israel than Dems.
The problem is American Jews religion isn’t Judaism its liberalism , many are hostile to Israel.
But I think 40% vote for a GOP candidate is possible in this situation where Iran would exterminate most Jews in Israel with a nuclear holocaust.
