(Newser) – Details about NBC's Brian Williams investigation are leaking out—for example, news broke that he may have told Jon Stewart a tall tale, and yesterday sources told the Washington Post that the investigation found at least 11 examples of Williams' publicly embellishing a story. Those leaks are likely quite intentional, "longtime broadcast executives" tell Politico Playbook. The network is probably trying to force Williams to resign, sending him the message, "You're dead. Now negotiate," the sources say. That's because it would be more trouble—and possibly more money—to have to fire him, though some NBC insiders say Williams could still return to the network.

Williams is a national joke...almost as much of a joke as that guy in the WH... and no one believes ANYTHING that comes out of his mouth, either.

How can this be? He’s a “war hero”...was under combat fire, just like Ernie Pyle and Killary Clinton. He probably also slayed pink dragons, but just didn’t have time to tell us of these heroic events.
If they fire him, then he’ll eventually end up as Hillary’s campaign adviser. They require professional liars on that Scooby bus.
He’s not the first nor the last leftist MSM figure who has lied about bigger things. I wonder who he pizzed off? Because this is not about his lying-leftists lie with impunity, all the time and brazenly (they still haven’t either retracted or apologised for doctoring the audio of Zimmerman when he called 911). He pizzed off someone pretty powerful on the left.

Yeah, his only “sin” was being found out. If they got rid of all their liars, they’d have to “go dark!” You’d get more factual reporting from giving the microphone to the folks down at the asylum.
Yup, he’s playing for money.
He’s betting that he’ll get a lot more in a negotiated buyout than he would in a resignation. NBC is looking at it from a risk perspective, if they fire him he’ll sue, and what are the chances that the cost of the suit plus an eventual judgement/settlement will exceed what can be negotiated.
Williams also certainly knows where a LOT of bodies are buried. So toss in the potential cost of having their reputation degraded by a tell-all book, interviews on rival networks, etc as well.
Why give him a settlement? Dock his pay and have him work behind the scenes or move him over to MSNBC and do stand up, which I understand was his fantasy job.
