A key hearing to determine whether the state Public Utilities Commission will allow construction of the long-delayed Keystone XL pipeline to move forward through South Dakota won’t be held next week, the commission voted on Monday.

The regulatory body met in Pierre and voted 3-0 to delay final arguments to ensure adequate time for parties to examine documents involved in the case, and the hearing will likely be held later this summer. The state initially authorized TransCanada Corp. to construct the Keystone XL pipeline project in 2010, but state rules dictate permits must be re-authorized if the construction of the project doesn’t start within four years of their issuance....

Pipeline opponents asked for the hearing postponement in South Dakota because they said the original schedule was too tight....

NO way the Canadians bother with tar sands when oil is dirt cheap right now.

Why do I think a lot of folks got paid some big bucks to keep delaying this. Obama isn’t much more than a p*** in all this.

False. It will slow their growth, but they don’t come on or slow down as fast as the smaller projects like drilling wells in the Bakken.

Pipelines also work off the the differential price in different locations, they are not really a factor of total price. We are not using less oil because prices are low. Demand continues to climb, both in the US and globally.

The price better be able to cover the cost of buying up land as the longer it drags on, the more landowners want.

In the summers, I work on natural gas pipelines in Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia, and the land agents tell me the best they can hope for is to get them to sign in the first visit. If they have a long time to think it over, they talk to their neighbors, they talk to friends and family, and then they find out the guy down the road was offered this, and they only offered me that and why don’t I get more and so on and so on and so on....then the lawyers get involved....

“NO way the Canadians bother with tar sands when oil is dirt cheap right now.”....

If that oil is so “dirt cheap”, why did gasoline prices just jump again? Ever notice how it goes up 5 cents, but down 1 cent at a time?

I sort of hope you are right about fuel prices. The last two summers I made bank on the pipeline because they were paying ridiculously high wages. I had feared that this summer, with lower prices, they may come down on wages and hiring. If what you say is true, I may be safe. I’ll know in two weeks.

[why did gasoline prices just jump again?]

Oil companies want to profit from family vacations and farming expenses.
