Petraeus Is Protected by a Politicized Justice Department
National Review Online ^ | March 5, 2014 | Andrew McCarthy

General Petraeus committed several serious felony violations of federal law. And not in a one-off lapse of judgment; this was a series of offenses committed over an extended period of time. Clearly, Petraeus believed he was a law unto himself. A notorious publicity seeker, he treated journals chronicling his highly classified activities as if they were his own property, to be maintained and exhibited as he saw fit — mainly, for use in burnishing his carefully cultivated image — rather than as federal law dictates. Even after he was caught, he continued to lie, obstruct justice, and put the government that had so elevated him to additional burdens to recover the records he was illegally hoarding.

The entire Obama administration is protected by a politicized JD. Hell, Lynch and Holder practically said that their job was to protect the president and his cronies.

Petraeus did a good job with the surge in Iraq, but that in no way excuses his conduct as it pertains to the handling and distribution of classified material. If a Sgt had done what he did, that Sgt would be put under the prison in Leavenworth. Petraeus should have done jail time period!

What a stinking shame! Of all the people who should have known that "code word" material contains within it the knowledge of how it was obtained, and the fact that it WAS obtained. This arrogance had to have caused huge problems all up and down the chain of command. Obama's reckless abuse of this law has led to giving the enemy a huge advantage.

Worse it has led to an example that classified info need not be protected at all costs.

Look at the long list of traitors from Benedict Arnold to Bowe Bergdahl and wonder how the military can operate in such a loose fashion. Obama may not have started this atmosphere but his traitorous hands are all over these recent offenses.

Let’s not forget that the General violated the UCMJ and even though he was retired a case could have been brought against him. Clearly his behavior influenced Broadwell’s access. But let’s not forget that the reason the military has the UCMJ is to prevent members from compromising position- which in this case was leveraged not an enemy of the US, but by the Obama Admin. The White House unexpectedly pulled Petraeus from Afghanistan to the CIA because it knew of the affair. Having a compromised former General at the CIA proved valuable in the Benghazi cover-up. Petraeus now gets a misdemeanor and the entire episode is under the rug.

Yes, one of his last acts as DCI was testifying that Benghazi was caused by the Youtube. You could get real conspiratorial about that. But I suspect it was just his habit of sucking up to superiors.

Petraeus lied to investigators about sharing with his mistress eight classified notebooks containing secret codes, the identities of covert officers, war strategy and notes from National Security Council meetings.

The scum should be spending at least a decade pounding rocks at Leavenworth, not traveling internationally to earn fat speaking fees.

So Petraeus skates with a slap on the wrist with the judge exclaiming, "Mr. Petraeus, I want to wish you good luck."

Someone got to U.S. Magistrate Judge David Keesler.
