Puerto Rico's Government Development Bank warned Wednesday that it is very likely the U.S. territory's government could be forced to shut down in the next three months because of a lack of funds.
The bank made the warning in a letter made public a day after it was sent to Gov. Alejandro Garcia Padilla and the presidents of the island's Senate and House of Representatives.
"The island's financial state is extremely uncertain," the letter said. "A government shutdown would have a devastating impact on the economy, with salary and public service cuts, and a long and painful recovery."

The problem is everyone will high-tail it to the US if the US ever cast Puerto Rico aside.
Government apparatchiks hardest hit
My bet is just the opposite. After a period of pain, similar to a heroin addict detoxing, the economy would do much better than when it had the drag of an overbearing government on its back.
Gee- Since the Obama administration —Social Security Administration has declared that the entire territory of Puerto Rico is eligible for SS Disability -— because—THEY DON”T SPEAK ENGLISH, the island should be flush with money.
Its just going to be another hand in our pocket.
Illinois, California, are you taking notes?
