Town of Grand Chute -- Gov. Scott Walker said his administration will continue to let science guide environmental policy in Wisconsin even if some scientists are laid off at the Department of Natural Resources.
Speaking on Earth Day in this town near Appleton on Wednesday, Walker addressed notices of potential layoffs that have gone out to fifty-seven employees of the state Department of Natural Resources.
DNR spokesman Bill Cosh has said that of that number, 27 employees are in the Bureau of Science Services, a unit of the DNR where Walker is proposing significant cuts.
"We believe that science should drive decisions at the Department of Natural Resources but that we do it on an as needed basis so when an issue comes up that we need a report we can contract out for that," Walker told reporters.
The bureau performs significant research duties for the DNR, and the cuts have come under fire from wildlife and environmental groups who say research is the underpinning of many agency activities. Other positions that could be cut are education and communications personnel.

He added, "Our base wants the same things most independents do. They want people who look you in the eye and tell you exactly what you're going to do. They want big, bold ideas. And they want leaders who are willing to have the courage to enact them no matter the circumstances." Source
Like Ted Cruz. I like the voice of the people heard among the muscular plans for the future.
Did you hear Cruz this morning on the floor of the senate?
Just wow!
All HELL is raining down on that Texas master of the word, and still he speaks for us, calling out Republicans betraying the Constitution, who vote for LYNCH, and for 20 more months of Obama executive lawlessness under her. She said she would stop nothing from the executive.
Those positions in a Natural Resources Department are about as useless as teats on a bull. I hope he cuts them all.
~~Cruz or Lose~~
I really respect our whole field for their decency and for the already proven conservative credentials of many of them.
Walker had been magnificent in performing miracles over and over, right there in the enemy’s camp of Wisconsin. How he pulled it all off so brilliantly, I’m sure I don’t know.
Walker and Cruz and even Paul have very powerful enemies, all the right ones, but only Cruz and Paul have earned the ire of the entire Republican Establishment, who they have called out for having ceded democracy to the Left.
That matters because the DC system is broken and our nation is under attack from within.
Your turn.
Here’s hoping that President Walker shuts down the EPA & many other departments at the Fed level. Education & Labor could use a pruning.
I’ll second that.
“The leaders of the Legislature’s budget committee on Wednesday abandoned Gov. Scott Walker’s plan to strip the state Natural Resources Board and the state Agriculture Board of their policy-making powers. They also removed 13 other pieces of policy from Walker’s budget, including one that would exempt research at the University of Wisconsin System from the open records law. Another one that was dropped would have had property assessment duties shifted from most municipalities to counties”
Rut Rho!! :-)
Good grief. Is this the Scott Walker website today? One Walker article after the other. He’s not going to go up in the polls in proportion to how many articles are posted about him here on FR, lol.
This was posted back on 4/23/15.

Walker spoke to a packed crowd in the Arby’s mens room. :-)
My comment wasn’t directed at this article in particular, rather at the cumulative amount of articles posted one right after the other about Walker today. Geez, who do certain Freepers think he is, Donald Trump, lol?
Walker’s numbers continue to decline. No matter how many articles are posted about him, here ;)
Scott is done. He just doesn’t know it.
He’ll suck the life-blood out of his supporters and donors, then give them the bad news.
The guy is probably a week from dropping out and still CW cannot get off a dead horse. My advice to her next cycle is to do what I do which is pick 2-3 people who look good and then start weeding them out til I get to the final choice. CW just goes with the GOPe pick and then she finds herself on a dead horse and has nowhere to jump. Now she is just mostly reduced to posting anti Trump stuff which is sad.
