Tabletalk: Your book is titled The Secret Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert. Could you explain some of your secret thoughts, and why you were an unlikely convert?
Rosaria Butterfield: I considered myself an atheist, having rejected my Catholic childhood and what I perceived to be the superstitions and illogic of the historic Christian faith. I found Christians to be difficult, sour, fearful, and intellectually unengaged people. In addition, since the age of twenty-eight, I had lived in monogamous lesbian relationships and politically supported LGBT causes. I coauthored Syracuse Universitys first successful domestic partnership policy while working there as a professor of English and womens studies. I was terrified to aliate on any level with a worldview that called me, my life, my community, my scholarly interest, and my relationship sin. Add to this that I was working on a book exposing the religious right from a lesbian feminist point of view. I approached the Bible with an agenda to tear it down because I firmly believed that it was threatening, dangerous, and irrational.
But when I came to Christ....

I have a REALLY tough time believeing this wench...
Don't believe her if you wish. Believe the God who died for her sins as well as yours and for whom ALL things are possible.
"I found Christians to be difficult, sour, fearful, and intellectually unengaged people."
There are lots of self-identified Christians out there who apparently think that instead of salt and light, they are called to be vinegar and water. Some of them frequent the threads at FR.
(Note: Old Sarge, I do not include you in this category)
Although I have to admit I have no idea what she was trying to say on her first question/answer bullet. The rest were clear, but this one left me scratching my head..
TT: How has your story been received by Christians?
RB: The protagonist of Secret Thoughts is Pastor Ken Smith, who modeled to me organic Christian hospitality and the life-sustaining action of neighboring. Christian readers have responded to Kens example and have been encouraged by it.
I have no idea what message she was trying to convey.
“Wench”? Please.
Early Christians had a hard time believing St Paul’s conversion.
But then, remember when Larry Flint had his “conversion” and tried, and failed, to get on several religious TV shows? He would not give up his ownership of Hustler magazine. He later began to publish some of the most vile anti-Christian cartoons in his rag. Then he got shot and really turned vile.
And who can forget when Governor Huckabee of Arkansas released Maurice Clemmons after Clemmons had a prison “conversion”. Clemmons then went on to kill several policemen in Washington state.
"Some indeed preach Christ from envy and rivalry, but others from good will. . . . What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in that I rejoice. (Phil. 1:15,18)
The religion threads are overflowing with them. When you tell them this, they fling Bible verses at you.

That’s my point: people RARELY change. Once they choose the donwward path, they rarely climb back out.
You obviously didn't read the article before you posted.
Had you actually taken the time to read it, one hopes you would not have naturally been so knee-jerk inclined to write something so stupid and condemnatory.
Why don't you just go ahead and take that time now to finally read the article, and study carefully what she has said.
We'll all stand by ready to listen for your comments that are (hopefully) revised and extended -- only this time written with a tad more evidence of studied wisdom.
FReegards!
And personal insults don’t endear me to respond. Welcome to The List.
Your wounds are all self-inflicted here.
You are free to lick them.
FReegards!
‘But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.’
Thanks
How many time have we heard conversion stories of people wanting to disprove the Bible and ending up finding the love of Jesus and their salvation.
