WASHINGTON – Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz has sent a letter to tens of thousands of pastors nationwide, urging them to preach about biblical marriage the weekend before the U.S. Supreme Court is scheduled to hear oral arguments over states’ rights regarding the definition of marriage.
“On Tuesday, April 28, the United States Supreme Court is scheduled to hear arguments in favor of ‘same-sex marriage.’ How will the American church respond?” he asked. “The prophet Daniel described the people who know their God as people who do two things: display strength and take action (Daniel 11:32).”
Cruz therefore asked that pastors deliver messages on biblical marriage on Sunday, April 26, and that they lead prayer services on the 28th as the oral arguments are considered. He exhorted Christians to cease being complacent about the matter.
“We know that marriage is intended to be sacred, beautiful, and nourishing. If you do not influence your congregations understanding of marriage, who will fill the void? Hollywood? Divorce courts?” he asked. “The church has not shared the truth about marriage well; it is time to repent and commit ourselves to courage on this front.”
Cruz, the son of an evangelical minister, then stated that the right side of history on the issue is God’s side.
“Regardless of what happens in the Supreme Court, or anywhere else, we know that the truth will never be obsolete. The union of man and woman in marriage will always be relevant,” he said. “That leaves us only one question. Will we be on the right side of history, the side occupied by the Author of history? Otherwise, we will fall victim to the fashions of the times.”
“Will we discard an institution, ordained by God, which has brought so much stability and happiness to the human family? Or will we stand in its support?” Cruz continued. “Rightly or wrongly, the Supreme Court will take a stand on marriage this summer. Lets take ours now.”
Cruz’ letter was in support of an effort launched by David Lane of the American Renewal Project, who first proposed the preaching and prayer services.
As previously reported, Cruz mentioned the institution of marriage last month when he announced his candidacy for president of the United States at Liberty University.
Instead of a federal government that wages an assault on our religious liberty, that goes after Hobby Lobby, that goes after the Little Sisters of the Poor, that goes after Liberty University, imagine a federal government that stands for the First Amendment rights of every American, he stated. Instead of a federal government that works to undermine our values, imagine a federal government that works to defend the sanctity of human life, and to uphold the sacrament of marriage.
There are people who wonder if faith is real, Cruz said. I can tell you, in my family theres not a second of doubt, because were it not for the transformative love of Jesus Christ, I would not have been saved…

Teds right!
California...as wacked as it is...was RIGHT. but alas!
People seem to forget that this stuff was not regarded as "just another life style choice", it was looked at as an infection.
Any analyses?? Does this help or hurt. I LOVE Ted, but might this not be like Sanders saying “I hate people that work forty hours a week and want all their money”. Is it too honest?
He is going all out, and putting everything on the line. I respect that.
I think it has to be said!
‘Is it too honest?’
He’s a statesman, not a politician. That means he has core beliefs and integrity. Therefore there’s no such thing as being “too honest”
Remember, Dole, McCain and Romney were the types that worried about being “too honest”
Then we also must agree that we cannot survive another 9 yeas of this as a republic and some whispering in dark corners may be necessary if the beast wins.
Keep reminding me of that when my yellow streak shows through my white shirt :)
Just another reason I love this man! When is the last time you heard this from anyone running for public office?? I don’t think I ever have.
That's right! Vote for the "R" no matter how much of a backstabber fellow-traveler RINO he is! The GOPe will still drive us into the canyon, but it'll be slower! Whee!
My views too.
We have a man who stands on principles and can articulate his position.
I’m voting for Cruz. not sure what you are implying?
If I gave the impression that I would vote for a rino, I apologize. Would not.
It’s another variation of sexual impurity, albeit a particularly bad one.
The high ground was slowly given up over decades as “Christian” opinion got very laissez-faire on extramarital sex and divorces. If an infection, it is opportunistic. The necessary strengthening of the body politic will never work if it is only attempted to be encapsulated in the sound bite “We Hate Gays.” The devil laughs as he looks how etiolated Christendom has gotten.
