Republicans took the Senate in 2014 by stressing the data that CQ Roll Calls presidential support vote study revealed: Democrats in red states were sticking close to President Barack Obama. So heres a surprise: the new GOP majority in 2015 is voting Obamas way as often as they ever have.
Sure, its early. But at this point, few expected Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky to be as accommodating as he has been. CQ Vote Watch, a new tool that offers daily reports on voting patterns, shows that Obamas victory percentage on Senate votes where hes taken a position is at 82 percent. That's a bit lower than recent years but higher than his number in 2012, when Democrats ruled the chamber.
Democrats are voting with the president at or near record levels, and Republicans are too. So far, theyve voted with Obama 54 percent of the time, just a tick below last years record 55 percent.
Legislating remains tough, but the deals on Medicare payments to doctors, Homeland Security funding, and bipartisan cooperation on cybersecurity and the No Child Left Behind reauthorization indicate that predictions of complete breakdown were premature.
I think theres a tendency to think that periods of gridlock are permanent and that Armageddon is just around the corner, said Claremont McKenna College politics professor John J. Pitney Jr. James Madison helped design a system thats pretty durable, and were seeing his handiwork.
CQ Roll Call has studied congressional voting, specifically voting by representatives and senators in support of the president, as well as partisan voting, since 1953. Until now, the vote studies were annual projects. Starting today, CQ.com subscribers can see the studies take shape in real time, vote by vote, at CQ Vote Watch.

Not surprising. I’ve heard that Obama treats the House and Senate a lot like the way ones like Richard Daley Jr dealt with Chicago City Council. Basically forcing them to rubber stamp whatever they wanted by whatever means possible. When they are bought and paid for by very wealthy, limousine liberal interests, doing things the Chicago way is probably not too terribly difficult.
The GOP establishment and Obama work for the same people.
So....democrats in the south are still democrats in the south? Why would that affect republican votes. No they are just weasels and stabbed us in the back with middle of the night budgets, doing nothing on amnesty the fake deal on Iran where sixty seven are needed to override the pResident. There are maybe what?, a dozen conservative senators. Trey tough guy Gowdy couldn’t even get Hillary’s sever
"Obama is our King, our Lord, our Caliph whom we protect.
The scum of America, especially conservatives and Constitution-clingers,
only deserve IRS attacks which WE initiated."
What do you expect, Hairy Reed is the Sinate Majority Leader. McConnell would secretly agree.
Thanks for the pic of some of the domestic enemies in CONgre$$.

Duh. The GOP only ‘acts’ conservative when they are a minority.
We’re on our own...the sell out and compromised GOP...isn’t going to do jack s**t.
I would expect that NSA has the dirt on these RINOs loaded on a robo-caller. “Hello Mitch, remember back in 2012 when you wrote your intern that inappropriate email? Well, here’s how you’re going to vote on the upcoming issue. I knew you’d understand and thanks for your support.”
"Perks have been very, very good to us. We don't need no stinkin' Presidency".
In our iteration of the cycle, we have now progressed to the return of pseudo "two party rule" not unlike time of the Democrats and the Whigs.
If history is a guide, then we, our politics and likely the world in general are headed for a potentially dramatic reshuffle that will shed what needs to be discarded to put things back in balance and begin the cycle anew.
Ladies and Gentlemen, please return to your seats. The Captain has just turned on the "Fasten Seat Belts" sign as we are about to enter some turbulence.
Sometimes.
Garbage in, garbage out.
It doesn’t take a study to determine that.
We would have been better off if McConnell and Cochran had lost.
Raise you hand if you see any difference between the GOP controlled Congress and the 2008 Dem controlled Congress.
Pelosi still controls the House for all intents and purposes.
