Thousands of environmentally conscious citizens converged on the National Mall on Saturday to be part of the Global Citizen Earth Day rally and concert. Performers like Mary J. Blige, Usher, and No Doubt performed to the crowd to highlight global poverty and climate change.
Via USA Today:
Earth Day Network President Kathleen Rogers said eliminating poverty will require solving climate change. So advocates on both issues are collaborating to push for sustainable international development and hope Saturday’s event inspires people to support it. The rally was a cooperative effort with Global Citizen. The actual Earth Day observance is April 22.
“Whether it’s the big migrations we expect to see or soil depletion or emptying the oceans, loss of species, loss of timberland all these things are creating poverty at the same time that they are also creating climate change issues,” Rogers said.
Unlike the cold and dreary Earth Day rally of 2012 — when none but the most die-hard Gaia worshippers came out — this Earth Day rally was on a beautiful spring day and was well attended. Unfortunately, well-attended events on the left do have a well-known downside…and that downside has a tendency to undercut their “earth-friendly” message.
Forget the “emptying of the oceans.” Someone needs to empty these trash cans.

All those plastic bottles and Styrofoam containers are not very “green.” Liberals are morons.
Look, these people care so much about the earth EVERYDAY, that they can afford to be messy this ONE day!
Where as you right-wing nuts who want dirty air, and dirty water, and kill innocent animals don’t EVER care about the earth. So SHUT-UP!
At their core, liberals are lazy, hypocritical, zealots - starry-eyed utopians who are too lazy to pick up their own trash and too important to follow their own feel-good rules and laws.
They are full of simplistic ideas for their Utopian society but are basically inconsiderate pigs, always expecting the government or some one else to do the work or clean up after them.
I have to say that they TRIED to put the trash in the cans. It’s not their fault that there were not enough cans.
It doesn’t matter how much ‘change’ they actually made.
Whats important is that they went, and they have pictures to post on facetweet about how up-worldly mobile hipster they are.
Stories like this always remind me of Grateful Dead concerts. As the audience developed, they would bring garbage bags to the event to pick up after the show. I remember one cop in a Southern State saying “damn! they left this place cleaner than it was before they came here.”
It’s not about personal accountability and action. It’s about feeling good in the moment. So much more important than silly logistics.
I thought environmentalists carries canvas tote bags.
I am surprised. NOT.
Soooooooo, when we (conservatives) teach “Leave No Trace Behind,” we are being what...mean to the earth. If these window licking morons were SOOOOOO smart, they would have brought in their own trash bag and taken out their own trash as well the trash of others, but then that would mean they actually practice what they preach. What do liberals call this when we conservatives teach this to our son’s in the Boy Scout’s...just curious, have you ever seen what a Jamboree event looks like after we are done...and these are “boys.”
Yep, this is all about a photo op — Look at mmmmmeeeeeee, I care about the earth and I came to DC and took pictures...I’m a special snowflake.
These people make me sick — for them it is all about what they say and not about what they actually do.
I disagree.
If I am somewhere and I cant find a trash can or the trash can is full I carry my trash until I can find a trash can that can toss my trash IN.
I dont see any garbage in that picture that was too heavy to carry back to their hotel or car.
Thoughtless and lazy people is what that picture reveals.
The Tea Party get togethers are notable because we clean the grounds on the way in and on the way out.

In other words, morons.
Anyone thought about making shirts with any of these pics? Just entitle it “Earth Day, marching for a cleaner world”...
In those photos, the trash appears to be piled NEAR the [full] trash cans, and other areas appear to be pretty much free of garbage. Many of the pigs who attended Obama’s inauguration pretty much just dropped their garbage wherever they happened to be standing at the time they were through with it.
