Oh, the delicious, delicious irony.
Yesterday was Global Citizen 2015 Earth Day, which was celebrated with a concert and other festivities on the National Mall. While the concert itself was powered by solar energy, the attendees could have learned a lesson or two about taking care of planet Earth.
For instance, check out these trash and recycling cans I spotted near the National Mall, close to the Washington Monument:

Disgusting. Granted, there should have been more attention to detail/park workers actually emptying the trash cans, but this is just gross. This is the National Mall, not a dumpster. There was a definite failure to plan for the estimated hundreds of thousands of people who would be coming in to the area for the concert, and that is concerning.
I was hardly the only person to notice the disgusting state of the Mall:

While I think it's fine that the concert itself was powered by solar energy, there were dozens of incidental factors to the concert that essentially wiped out any benefit to the planet the solar power provided. People traveled to get to the concert in non-"green" ways, and when they got to the show, there were dozens of food trucks (which are not solar-powered) there to sell food that was packaged in styrofoam. None of that is particularly "good" for the environment. Plus, trash was everywhere.
It's great to care about the environment (and people probably should), but it's incredibly hypocritical to go to a concert celebrating the environment and leave the area a trash-strewn mess. Simply going to a concert is not an indulgence to litter in the future.
Based on the evidence, it's an indulgence to litter right now.
My mistake earlier. So, the concert was solar powered. On the other hand, I’m fairly certain that all of the equipment used to manufacture all of the components were erf neutral and no/ZEEE-row carbon was emitted during their construction. Same for the transportation and clothing and every other accessory there? Ummm, prolly not.
Every time liberals get together they trash the place. So much for liberals being for the Earth or anything but dirty hippies.
It seems where ever these Earth Day people go they trash the planet. Hypocrites all!
I assume that most people have posted without reading or looking at the article. It clearly shows that these people tried to get their trash into a tiny number of trash cans (put out by the Park Service, I assume) and did the best they could by putting their trash around the overflowing trash cans.
While I dislike lefties as much as anybody else, this is ridiculous. The Park Service needs to put out more trash cans. We had the same problem at a park in NYC that I used to go to regularly. One 4th of July, after the park had been made safe by knife-wielding Dominicans (people from the Dominican Republic, not monks!), everybody went out there for the 4th and there were huge mounds of trash...around the two or three trash cans the city had put out there.
We all complained and the next year, we actually had dumpsters! Which is what is needed. So it’s not the fault of the leftists, but the fault of an underfunded Park Department, since Obama hates anything that reeks of America.

The Tea Party folks brought their own trash bags. They did not have to be told to do this, they knew there would be a need.

The absolute worst mess on the mall was inauguration day, 2009. It was worse than Woodstock.
Yes heartless Tea Party members left the park cleaner than when they arrived. The results: Joblessness. Yes joblessness. The cleaning crews who work to keep the place clean had nothing to do. Remember they have children to feed. Think about the children, and some have puppies, sad eyed little puppies. Some have little kittens. Can you imagine a sad eyed kitten going without milk.
You just don't understand, they were simply doing their part to insure the continued employment of all the sanitation workers in the area, after all if they cleaned up after themselves there would be less work, wouldn't there? No, you're right they're just filthy pigs.

Was it really solar powered or is that just BS. In college they had a “solar powered” concert on one of those towable stage trailers with hydraulic roof that had solar panels installed on it. They also had a rather large trailarized diesel generator parked behind said stage.
Please stop making excuses for these people; I was there yesterday to view the Veteran’s Memorials. The lefties were exceptionally rude, as usual. There were trash cans all over the place. I’m an old guy, and when I travel to a national park I carry out ALL the trash I bring in or create, as I did yesterday. There is absolutely no excuse for these people nor anyone else not to carry out their own trash.
I spent 9 years in the WDC area (1996 - 2004), and went to many events on the Mall.
Without fail, after EVERY LIEberal event, the Mall was TRASHED!
