For the eighth consecutive year the Town of Halton Hills experienced an overall reduction in the amount of energy used during Earth Hour on Saturday, March 28.

Earth Hour links communities across the world in bringing awareness to climate change. This is also an opportunity to reflect on the importance of year-round energy conservation and the need to take actions that benefit the health of our planet.

Yeah, and I’d bet it spiked back up over normal levels as soon as the hour was over.

In 2015, with the support of local businesses, schools, residents and other organizations, energy consumption decreased during Earth Hour. The amount of the decrease is equivalent to powering about 418 homes for one hour. Since first participating in Earth Hour in 2008, the community has saved enough electricity to power about 23,375 average homes for one hour!

So in 8 years of Earth Hours they saved 23,375 house-hours of energy or an average of 2922 each year. But this year they only saved 418 house-hours of energy. Looks like participation must be plummeting from the early years.

As much as I don’t care for the usual idiocy from these groups, this I have no problem wit.

Just for yucks I went around last ‘earth day’ and looked for every single plug and outlet and unplugged anything that was not being used- my electric bill went down about $30.

It was a good reminder to go and disconnect everything that I forgot was plugged in.

Wonder why they didn’t track usage in my city.
Everyone I know (literally) had every electrical device on for three hours.
I was too lazy to switch out all the cf low energy bulbs for old incandescent this year, though. That’s like work.

My energy drops when I turn off the lights, the mushroom dryer and the whisky still and go sleeping. Do I get an award for that?

"Energy drop recorded during Halton Hills's Earth Hour"

The town would be far better off if the utility turned off the juice for an hour and let the fair citizens consider how prepared they are.
