Marco Rubio announced his candidacy for presidency of the United States at the Freedom Tower in Miami on Monday, highlighting his familys hardscrabble immigrant roots, embracing traditional values but also vowing to usher in a new American century.
As a matter of political pragmatism, is there any convincing reason Rubio shouldnt be the Republican to take on Hillary Clinton in 2016? Because when it comes to natural political talent, it unlikely the GOP can do better.
For starters, Rubio is the most compelling speaker in the Republican field.
Sen. Mike Lee says Rubio can bring grown men to tears with emotion. This is something voters value. And judging from yesterdays performance, Rubios speeches can be infused with an emotional quality that much of the prefabricated rhetoric we hear does not have. Not only do you sense that his belief in American exceptionalism is genuine, but that his populist sensibilities will allow him to credibly broach the subject of inequality mostly, because he has a captivating family story to lean on.
Lets face it, even if Rubio is overrated, hes probably the kind of consensus candidate GOP primary voters are going to have to settle on, anyway.
Other than his futile shot at immigration reform, Rubio has been reliably conservative. The Jeb Bush candidacy, driven by oodles of cash but little popular support, makes Rubio seem more palatable, while the Cruz candidacy, almost exclusively propelled by grassroots, makes him seem less severe. The money and votes will gravitate to whoever can win if, that is, the person is somewhat ideologically acceptable to rank and file.
As Politico points out:
An NBC/Wall Street Journal poll last month reflected that upside among the rank-and-file. More Republicans, 56 percent, said they could back Rubio than any other candidate, including Bush (49 percent).

Ted won't.
Bull crap!!!
Ain't gonna work.
The media is creaming over Rubio.
Rubio is not my first choice, but if the ballot is;
Clinton vs Rubio, I pull the Rubio lever.
if it is Clinton vs Bush, I wash the truck.
Is Cruzin'
I don't "settle" anymore. Romney was the last time.
You want my vote, GOP; you earn my vote.
Otherwise--Sayonara.
But under no circumstances will I ever vote for another Bush, ever.
That is about where I am at. Bush vs Clinton will get a blank ballot or a 3rd party vote.
Somehow the Democrats manage to get perfect ideologues for their candidates and never have to settle.
Really. Cruz or Lose, GOP. It may be your last chance to avoid a bloody civil war. We Patriots will not see the Last Best Hope slide into the waves because the Rats were able to sign up millions of illegals to vote. As Rush says, in a world governed by the aggressive use of force no one volunteers to lose by signing their name to a piece of paper. If you want to see the result of further malfeasance go ahead and push the Bushes, Christies, and the rest of that herd of RINOS you got. Hell, I hear McCain is thinking of jumping in. If you want to see America Great once again, Go Ted. The days of the Uniparty are over. We have had it.
Cruz or Lose, GOP.

Godspeed, Senator Cruz- Im all in.
Shrub vs. “The Witch” and I will write in Sara Palin.
If he is then God help us all.
Sen. Mike Lee says Rubio can bring grown men to tears with emotion. This is something voters value.
Emotionalism. Sounds more like what Dim voters value.
They don't have nutjobs like Trump and Fiorino and Carson jumping in and muddying the waters.
The election is eighteen months away.
It’s far, FAR too soon to be making predictions.
The problem with Rubio is not that he made a mistake in his beliefs about immigration. It’s how he told us lies about how the gang of eight were going to implement border security as part of the plan, and then he went on Spanish television in Mexico and said ‘don’t worry, the security thing is B.S., we’ve got you covered, so hang in there, we will keep the border open and get amnesty approved asap!’
Lying and playing us for fools is a deal breaker for me..
“Shrub vs. The Witch and I will write in Sara Palin.”
Please make sure to add the “h” in Sarah.
After seeing Nov. 2000, I always worry that a write-in misspelling will give some leftist freak elections supervisor an excuse to void my entire ballot.
