Two suburban Washington, D.C., parents are under scrutiny again for letting their 6- and 10-year-old children play in a park and walk home alone in a case that has stirred debate about "free-range" parenting and government powers.
For the second time in four months, police picked up the children of Danielle and Alexander Meitiv on Sunday as they were walking home alone from a park that's nearly a mile from their house. This time, instead of bringing the children home, police took them directly to Child Protective Services.
"It's beyond ridiculous," Danielle Meitiv said Monday. "The world is safer today, and yet we imprison our children inside and wonder why they're obese and have no focus."
The Meitivs, who live 6 miles from Washington in Silver Spring, Maryland, believe in "free-range" parenting, which includes allowing their children to play and walk alone in the neighborhood to teach them self-reliance and responsibility.
Danielle Meitiv said she and her husband began worrying when the kids weren't home by 6:30, but that Child Protective Services didn't call them until 8 p.m. to say the children were in their custody.
Police had picked them up on the walk home after another concerned citizen called.
The Meitivs were able to take their children home around 10:30 p.m.
"This morning my daughter wanted to go play in the yard and I couldn't let her out because I was making breakfast," Danielle Meitiv said. "Are they prisoners? She's 6 and she's not allowed to play in the yard?"
The case has drawn international media coverage, and Danielle Meitiv said the couple has heard from people all over the world. The majority have been supportive, Meitiv said, but some have expressed outrage at the couple's parenting style.

having just talked to a cop about 5 mins ago then here in FL they have to go out once CPS or here they are called DCF request it.
Maybe it is different there an in other states. Was the cops called out and id they see the kids and just take them ?
You ever lived in rough places, the ghetto on the street.
I have and no I would not let my kids leave the street at that age, especially when child molesters live near by and drunks drive up the street speeding.

Dear lord,, seek help. I don’t even agree with me all the time! And nope, but there are whelps I care about in my life. I don’t want them living in the belief that molesters and killers are everywhere. With a few shining exceptions, this just is not true.
And I honestly believe hovering parents teach a kid moment by moment that they are in constant danger, and are incompetent to deal with the world. That very powerful lesson does horrifying damage to them.
And my own story, we liked to ride bike on pavement, so we went 3 miles out of town to the airport. The mean lady chased us off the runway with a broom “you damn kids are gonna make a plane crash”.
No, not that we would get killed, that we would make a plane crash trying to avoid us.
Went home, not a word. Today that would be a homeland security airport perimeter breach and a CPS incident. Guys looking like Nazi paratroopers would spill out of MRAPS with machine guns, filling the air with “hut hut hut..” Everyone would be arrested. Today isn’t worse, government is. Control freak government NEEDS people to believe the world is worse, otherwise their power grabs would make no sense.
That is my fatwa.
Same thing with my neighborhood. Always people looking out for each other. There weren’t things like neighborhood patrols.
Today, for kids going to school on the bus, in a gated community, the parents stand outside with the kids until they get on the bus.
We always had the older kids and when we got older and they moved on we took over and protected our neighborhood.
If there were bigger problems the dads would sort someone out but we always knew kids could be kids and were safe.
When I worked up in Boston I talked to a bnch of people from South Boston and the North end.
All of them said the neighborhoods were safer, people like Whitey bulger though a scum bag did keep the drugs away form kids and robberies never happened. There was no need for the police.
People in the Italian north end said the same about the mafia.
Years ago the head of the statue of Christopher Columbus was knocked off and when the locals were asked about it off the media they all said that it would never have happened years ago, same as homeless living on the street or robberies going on.
Both communities said the yuppies moved in and started to change the neighborhoods and eventually families moved out.
Today Boston advertises those two places as Irish and Italian, but they are not, they used to be but not today
It is the grooming of the child’s worldview-—to make them into ‘happy slaves” for the State.
All the behaviors that create Individualism and Autonomy have to be destroyed in children so they are conditioned to be controlled every minute of their day. That is why the Prussian system of “schooling’ was created—to create socialized “group” thinkers-—who are easily controlled by pop culture and feel “uncomforatable” when they think for themselves or outside the box-—like ALL our Founding Fathers and Free people who want Freedom and to be their own master.
Lincoln and Mark Twain never set foot into a group factory (mandatory institution of mass conformity.) And neither did the Founders and NEVER before the age of 8 if they did so. Their worldview was created by the Natural Family and Reality—not some artificially controlled environment where Reality is warped and autonomy and Virtue is deliberately destroyed so vice becomes the norm (slavery).
The NWO needs to destroy Free Will and that worldview of Christianity which created Individualism and Natural Rights from God ONLY.
The State is in the process of becoming god and dictating Good and Evil to make us into complaint addicts of culture and vice and to hate Wisdom and Truth/God and Freedom-—so we remain their slaves for Life. (like the Europeans and all tribal cultures).
As Lenin stated-—give me your children for four years and I will own them for life. The Christian Worldview of Individual Natural Rights from God is being obliterated with the destruction of the Natural Family life and mocked and marginalized so total slavery is possible. Destroy Reason and Logic (Common Sense) in small children with their forced indoctrination/institutionalization where watched every second-—will do it.—where Real Life skills are NEVER learned and bonding with family never occurs, and modeling their mother and father’s mature behaviors doesn’t happen (humanization).
The dehumanization—in front of TV or in institutions-—destroying Real Natural Life interactions or Freedom to Live and Learn by experience with loving parents and siblings and family— is what is needed to create inhumane Nazis/Fascist Jackboots.

When I was 11, I took a bus to Forest Hills Station, then transferred to the Boston Elevated railway to Dudley (In the heart of Boston’s Roxbury Ghetto), then transferred to a bus that rode through miles of burned out tenements and iron-grated storefronts to Codman Square in Dorchester (while passing the Nation of Islam Mosque #7 in Grove Hall) in order to go to world-renowned Girls Latin School for the 7th and 8th grades.
Every day for two years.

Yours and a whole bunch of others who lived through 1968 the first time and weren’t stupid enough to want to “recreate” it.
In the 60s every kid in my neighborhood walked to school from kindergarten on. We also walked to the park where our little league was. And to the church where our boy-scout troop was.
Of course, that was before the neighborhood community was destroyed by forced busing.

I dunno. But back when I was 8 my cousin and I used to walk a couple of miles every day, all summer long, to the local college where there was a swimming pool. We’d swim and snorkel all day long and then walk back home... barefoot.
It was the same pool my dad used to train at when he was an instructor / member of the Police Dept’s diving team.
Times have changed.
I think I am part if the last generation to be really free.
My mother took a trolley in Baltimore when she was but 6 to go to dance school. She said it was safe because people cared to butt in and stop anyone who might be bothering someone else.
Now, they just sit and ignore, or join in the torture.

My neighborhood was filled with veterans from WWII, Korea, and even WWI.
They knew things from experience.
