Dash cam video of a traffic stop provided the world with another piece of evidence Thursday in a fatal police shooting. It showed no indication of any physical or verbal threats before the driver bolts and the officer chases after him.
The video, released Thursday by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, shows what begins as a seemingly routine stop for a broken tail light. The officer, Michael Slager, approaches the used Mercedes-Benz driven by Walter Lamer Scott, and asks for license and registration. There's a brief exchange, and the officer returns to his cruiser.
Scott then takes off running.

Bizarre. Why would someone throw away their life like that? From the looks of it, there is no excuse.....unless there is video we are not seeing.
Ha. Yeah, you can ping me if it turns out to wrong. People who drive around uninsured frequently game the system in other ways. Occasionally it’s a lapse that can happen to anyone, I must acknowledge before you try to prove me completely wrong with that minor fact.
On Thursday, a second witness spoke to CNN about what she saw. Gwen Nichols said she was in the neighborhood when she heard police cars speeding by and, curious, she followed them. She saw Scott and Slager at the entrance to a vacant lot. "It was like a tussle type of thing, like, you know, like, 'What do you want?' or 'What did I do?' type of thing," said Nichols, who said she has not yet talked to police about what she saw.
It’s called “Call for backup.”
Race folks make them money makers, not the country in general. This officer was a disgrace though.
“Warrants? Drugs? “
Well now, that changes everything... No wonder he shot him in the back.
Looks like cold blooded murder to me. looks like he’s tampering with evidence too and it looks like another officer is conspiring with him.
Boy scouts don’t run away from cops.
The videos show that his backup was there when he dropped the taser next to the body. Didn't seem to help.
I think the cop thought Scott had his stun gun and then tried to cover his Ass when he found it where they had the physical Altercation. It wasn’t a good shoot, but he pretty much screwed himself when he planted the stun gun.
I wonder why she odd not talk to the police?
But I don’t think a “What did I do” kind of thing should end up in a dude being dead.
I suppose I must point out that I am not justifying what the video shows, because if I don't people presume that I am simply because I dared call into question the character of the man who chose to run away from the cops.
In fact, the question wasn't about the man at all: it was about the fact that this is national news and on everyone's radar. Why? Because he's black.
Don't people of other colors get shot dead by cops? I can only surmise, because it damn sure doesn't get all the rotation in the media that it does when a black man does - and incidentally, all of them that have made the news during this fad have been criminals, have they not?
He had not paid his child support.
Shooting people five times in the back for not having health care insurance would encourage more folks buy insurance.
There, fixed it for you.
Why was it necessary to point out that the Mercedes-Benz Scott was driving was used?
You would stand there and let someone shoot you?
and incidentally, all of them that have made the news during this fad have been criminals, have they not?
We all are.
America Desperately Needs to Fix Its Overcriminalization Problem
Exactly! That's the media's job.
