The Closing of the Campus Mind

"I can’t have you participate in class anymore.”

I was on my way out of class when my social welfare and policy professor casually called me over to tell me this. The friendliness of her tone did not match her words, and I attempted a shocked, confused apology. It was my first semester at the Hunter College School of Social Work, and I was as yet unfamiliar with the consistent, underlying threat that characterized much of the school’s policy and atmosphere. This professor was simply more open and direct than most.

I asked if I had said or done anything inappropriate or disrespectful, and she was quick to assure me that it was not my behavior that was the problem. No: It was my opinions. Or, as she put it, “I have to give over this information as is.”

I spent the rest of that semester mostly quiet, frustrated, and missing my undergraduate days, when my professors encouraged intellectual diversity and give-and-take. I attempted to take my case to a higher-up at school, an extremely nice, fair professor who insisted that it was in my own best interest not to rock the boat. I was doing well in his class, and I believed him when he told me he wanted me to continue doing well. He explained to me that people who were viewed as too conservative had had problems graduating in the past, and he didn’t want that to happen to me. I thought he was joking .  .  . until I realized he wasn’t.

Now that liberals control the colleges, no dissent will be allowed. So much for free speech.

Free Speech is still allowed, so long as it is correct speech.

My youngest son just graduated and I am going to sign up for some political science classes at a local campus. Going to be fun dealing with liberal teachers because I don’t care about my grade. All us oldsters should take some classes and show the youngins how to stand up to lies LOL!

I was doing great and on the Dean’s list in college, which got me lots of perks, use of special rooms and computers. Then, in an English class, the lib teacher went on a tirade blaming Nixon for getting us into Vietnam. Being older than the other students (going back for a degree as an adult), I blurted out that Nixon got in office in ‘68. Kennedy got us in and Johnson did the escalation. Nixon pulled us out when the war was defunded. Boom, there went my straight A ranking. Little tyrants. The more power you give them the more they look and act like Himmler.

At 67 in order to keep my license to practice law and to mediate, I have to go to a certain number of hours of seminars per year. Last February I was asked to leave half way through one. I did get 3.5 hours of ethics which is great. I don’t need the rest of the hours but I would like to get half my money back. The presenter said, “no” but I’m still considering small claims court. It’s less than $100.00. He lives in Florida. It could be fun to get the judgment and then file it in his home county. hehe

My guess is you will, at least, be blacklisted, demeaned, betlittled, insulted, etc. That is if you don't get kicked out of the school outright. Would you please keep us posted as to how it goes?

Thought Control! It is making itself a part of our daily life. It is true the foundation laid down by early teaching is pretty solid and often not recognized as opinion, and seldom examined by each one of us as we age.

What is taught and learned by youths is their guiding light for life. Our education system is poorly teaching the History of America and world change, etc.

MIND CONTROL indeed.

Father God help America and allow not for evil to take America over and destroy it. Forgive us we pray, in Jesus name amen

What was your offense?

I hate this trend (stampede) in “education”. I thought college was a place where the free exchange of ideas should be encouraged, rather than obstructed. Silly me.

Turning this great society into a land of sheeple who are afraid to speak up.

“What was your offense?” You mean why was I kicked out of the seminar? After the 3.5 hours of ethics there was a one hour film about domestic violence and then an invitation to people to share. arrrgggg. I did interrupt a woman who had gotten ten minutes into describing a 21 year relationship with an abusive husband. I simply asked whether this was a CLE or a support group. I then complained that the video tied abusive men (it was only about abusive men) to the Christian faith and family. I then said they should talk about how abusive Islam is to women. At that point I was actually being booed.

Once one exits the STEM departments, there is no lunger much of a campus mind.

That’s longer...but “lunger” does sound sort of fitting, eh, considering that lib types pretty much live on their lungs rather than their minds.

It's bad - and a total waste of money.

” people who were viewed as too conservative had had problems graduating in the past,”

I was told that to pursue a Phd in the arts was a waste of time for a white male. There is a lot of truth to that and I probably could have cleared what ever hurdles were I exceptional or a more talented (I’m not). But I liked teaching (not a requirement at schools) and sometimes regret it. I do not think I could have ever assembled a dissertation committee given who I am.

Dwemocrats jhad a death grip on the deep south during Jim Crow. Now they’ve just changed the direction and focus of their discrimination and hate.

I applaud your bravery! I think you should proceed with small claims court. It’s not too different in private schools, sad to say. Group think all the way. All they seem to do is instill fear -— fear for a grade, fear for a job, fear for social acceptance. Sheeple.

Liberals have been controlling classes and some college departments since the middle of the last century.

I was graduated in 1960 and had heard for a year before in my classes from some profs, how great Fidel Castro and Jack Kennedy were and how evil Ike/Nixon were for over a year. A couple of friends protested and got bounced from their classes or got D’s or worse.

My Dad told me to keep my mouth shut so I could be graduated, and warned me that I might have to fight Castro if Kennedy was elected. I didn’t fight Castro, but I was involved in the Cuban Missile Crisis while in the Navy a little later.

Flash forward to the mid 1990’s, and I had taken early retirement. I had my MBA and practical experience. A friend involved with the local community college told me to apply. Fortunately, a member of our church was in the upper leadership of this school. He warned me that libs and gays controlled the school, and I would be a target if I joined the staff. I decided it wasn’t worth the hassle.

So I did consulting and avoided liberals and universities until I fully retired.
