Rev. Al Sharpton called for national policing legislation akin to the Civil Rights Act this morning at the kickoff his National Action Networks annual convention, just after the arrest of a white South Carolina police officer for murder in the shooting of an unarmed black man.
There must be national policy and national law on policing, Mr. Sharpton said. We cant go from state to state, weve got to have national law to protect people against these continued questions.
Mr. Sharptons comments, coming on the heels of multiple instances of police killings of unarmed men of color around the country, were met with applause from the crowdand from the dais, which was packed with elected officials including Mayor Bill de Blasio, Congressman Charles Rangel, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, city Comptroller Scott Stringer and state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli
The convention kickoff, which featured a ribbon cutting with the lawmakers, came just hours after it was announced last night that North Charleston, S.C., police officer Michael T. Slager would be charged with murder in the death of Walter Scottwho can be seen in a widely publicized video running away from Mr. Slager, while the officer shoots into the mans back repeatedly. The video offers a markedly different story than the one Mr. Slager first offered up: that Scott had stolen his taser and left him in fear for his life.

I sure am glad the author doesn't have a bias here.
Rev Al, just go away.
Because the Gestapo never kill innocent people.
Carrying Obama’s totalitarian water????....
Uh, no.
And they shoot unarmed men who are White, Hispanic and Asian also, Al. Sadly you and the press could care less about the others
Great job CNN you Mau Mau another local shooting into a national story.
This will keep Sharpie, Obie, & Eric the Red busy for years.
Glad the moron said it out loud. Now comes the task of explaining to the lofos why that is a bad thing.
When your time comes AL will you also Run and Resist arrest ?
Federal Police ...
Now, who didn’t see THAT coming?
As if they’d be “more fair”.
I shudder to think what Sharpton’s version of such legislation would be, or Obama’s, for that matter.
One who fought an officer for his gun, charged him & another had health issues while resisting arrest.
Blacks should learn when there is an injustice, they will have White support.
While BS like 'Hands Up, Don't Shoot' get zero support!
oops he let Federal Police slip out
I am waiting for Rev. Al to ask for a national tax law because all these state tax laws are so hard on minorities. Not that he would pay, of course but ...
And if we get to the point where it's acceptable to run from the police, and they can't try to catch you, we're going to have some real problems.
WTF Al? Can’t you jus die of whatever cancer is eating you?
where’s the complete video ?
That got me wondering if this could be the cover that McConnell needs to finally cave on allowing the Loretta Lynch vote came to the floor.
I can hear it now. "We can't afford at this troubling time to not have a leader at the Department of Justice. That's why I'm now calling for a vote..."
McConnell must be getting twitchy, he hasn't caved on anything in weeks.
