Those are all great questions. Can’t wait to use them on the next AGW believer!

“Gitchi Gumee” is, of course, frozen over because of climate change.

Thanks !
There were two FoMoCo boats rechristened that day, coming under ownership of Interlake Steamship Company. Both were named for the wives of the owners of the firm.

Cue up the “I’m A Believer” “Monkees” music. Now I just need to find a counter song stating “I’m A Denier.” Plus I have no doubt you can come up with several more that don’t require a masters degree in rocket surgery to answer.

After the (gawd-awful!) Winter of 2013, we STILL had icebergs floating around on Lake Superior until June, 2014!

Yes. A pal in N. Minnesota has several boat frequencies on his computer and can listen in from time to time...

Since you brought up
The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, perhaps you would like my parody,
The Wreck of the John F'n Kerry.

I was GM of a marine fueling biz out of Duluth-Superior for a number of years. We operated an 8,000 bbl lighter vessel in the harbor and had fuel at Two Hbrs, Silver Bay and Taconite Harbor.
It was one of the best jobs I had in my energy career.
The tanker is now at Veracruz. She was marked for extinction in the US because of her single hull.

March 27 in Duluh and the ships were docked along the docks in Superior, Wis, they were ice locked-. In Marquette, Mi on April 7, from US 41 the horizon to the East, could see the ice line, west of the line open water with ice chunks floating.

Lake Superior has had late shipping starts the last three years! 2012 was the year of the warm spring. 2013 and 2014 had extremely late springs with snowfalls into May.
This year was very cold in November and in February, with a bit milder temps in December and January. I live in Minnesota, but in all the states east of here from Wisconsin to New England, the temps have been far below average. So, the ice build-up on the Great Lakes was extraordinary according to records.
