A State Department official dismissed a plea Friday from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the Iran nuclear agreement include clear recognition of his nation's "right to exist," declaring negotiations are "only about the nuclear issue."
State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf, in a terse response to a question about Netanyahu's concerns, told reporters, "This is an agreement that is only about the nuclear issue" -- a comment that indicates the Obama administration is not looking to enshrine Israel's security into a final agreement.
Harf, for her part, suggested the talks are complicated enough already.
"This is an agreement that doesn't deal with any other issues, nor should it," she said.
The Israeli prime minister, though, made the call for the "right to exist" measure during brief remarks early Friday. He blasted the Iran framework deal and said his Cabinet is uniformly opposed to it. He closed his brief address by demanding that any final agreement include "a clear and unambiguous Iranian recognition of Israel's right to exist."
The statement was prompted by reported statements from a top Iranian military official, who was quoted saying "erasing Israel" off the map is "non-negotiable."
To that, Netanyahu said: "The survival of Israel is non-negotiable."

The Iran-held American prisoners are not released, either.
The White Mosque and the “US” State Dept
(apparently a curse on the American people)
are ONLY interested in the extermination of America
and its allies.
Then it is time to put an end to diplomacy, especially the fake negotiations by Obama’s minions.
I am with you, Dave.
Go to the mall,now!
and stay there
This clueless bitch is a menace. If the negotiations are limited to the nuclear issue, why is lifting of sanctions part of the deal?
I wonder how Bibi and his cabinet reacted when they saw that comment from this afternoon’s briefing!
After treating Bibi like crap for 6 years, and relentless attacks over the Congress speech and the Israeli election and the Iran deal, this comment today is the straw that breaks the camel’s back for me!
What, exactly, did ‘we’ get in this deal. No hostages, no affirmation that Israel had a right to exist. No serious reduction of Iran’s nuclear program, no cessation of ‘death to America’, no cheap oil, no, no - nothing.
bump and ping
I guess that means discussion of sanctions have been removed from the agreement?
I don’t know if you are religious or not, Dave, but the Bible has some very harsh words about nations who go against the people of Israel. From genesis all the way through to the prophets, there are very dire warnings.
I fear for my country.
This is the full question and answer from State’s website:
Question: One of the things that the prime minister said was that any final deal thats reached in June, if that happens, needs to demand that Iran recognize Israels right to exist. Is that an appropriate thing to include in a deal of this sort, in the U.S.s view?
MS. HARF: Well, this is an agreement that is only about the nuclear issue. We have purposefully kept that separate from every other issue. That issue is complicated enough to deal with on its own. No, this is an agreement that doesnt deal with any other issues, nor should it, and thats what were focused on.
Back in 2002, Bibi came to Congress to urge US to invade Iraq. Too bad we took his advice. The Iraq war ended up making Iran a lot stronger, by replacing Saddam (Iran’s biggest enemy) with a pro-Iran government.
Bibi isn’t infallible, I guess.
“Only about the nuclear issue”. Well Harf the Dumb. If Iran doesn’t get to make a nuke, or have that capacity, then Israel will not have to worry about its very existence (a few nukes and goodby Israel).
Then Israel could deal with the Arabs feeling that their security is more assured and they can make more concessions to the Palestinians (if you can trust Hamas or Fatah, or both) in order to get some kind of peace agreement.
This woman is beyond dumb. A Psaki-lite bimbo.
Seems to me that the Iranian threat to obliterate Israel is VERY MUCH part of any nuclear discussion with Iran.
Damn these clueless morons to hell.
The people of Israel LIVE!
NEVER AGAIN!
Iraq was in good condition when Bush left office.
Hell, it was still in good shape a couple years into Zero’s term until his pull out.
Furthermore, Bibi wasn’t even PM in 2002, and at the time the Israelis were trying to warn us that Iran was a bigger threat than Iraq!
