Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid waded into a simmering dispute between deputies Dick Durbin and Chuck Schumer on Wednesday, telling the two to “relax” as they tussle over whether Durbin will keep his job as whip.

There was some indication that the two senior Democrats might be heeding Reid’s advice: Schumer (D-N.Y) and Durbin (D-Ill.) spoke by telephone on Wednesday about their very public disagreement over Durbin’s future as party whip, the No. 2 slot in leadership.
