The Week Mike Pence’s 2016 Dreams Crumbled
Politico ^ | April 1, 2015 | Adam Wren

With the black marble of the Indiana House of Representatives behind him, Gov. Mike Pence in January trumpeted a laundry list of accomplishments achieved in the first half of his first term: Two balanced budgets. A falling unemployment rate. More than 100,00 new jobs created. It seemed the predicate for a potential 2016 run. Basking in the glow of the moment, Pence dropped his customary aw-shucks Hoosier persona and let himself boast: “Tonight, there are 49 other governors across this country who wish they could be me!” Maybe then. Not anymore.

I think this is the money quote from the piece:

Privately, Pence allies are astounded at the reaction from the business community. After all, they argue, the governor cut their taxes early in his first session as governor.

What a bunch of fools. Big Business never backs social conservatives. They got their tax cuts and what is Pence going to do increase them.

Indiana, other states and weak kneed GOPers, should look no further than Chick-Fil-A… when the PeeCee Inquisitors came they resisted and the “Gaystopo” retreated defeated! “Progressives” have become what they once claimed to despise… petty, judgmental, holier than thou moral busybodies.

All the people that stood with Pence at the signing of the bill; and all the Republicans who stood with Pence after the signing—Stabbed in the back when this poltroon caved.

Pence showed that he is not ready for prime time. He should've been quoting the Constitution, and talking about the founding fathers, and quoting from Indiaan's history of fairness and independence. Instead he tries to be all things to all people.

The Republicans who campaign constitutional conservatism but don't real believe it or haven't studied it are going to be bullied around, of course.

Ted Cruz for President.

Yep. Once again, shows the need for social and economic conservatives to stand together, or they’ll hang separately.

on the contrary, he probably ensured his own re-election. They turned the Indiana law into an anti-gay marriage issue and regardless of what people on FR believe, every poll now says over 60% of Americans support gay marriage.

I’ve always been a big believer in Pence. He always handled the media great while in Congress. This episode quickly removed any thoughts that this guy has an it factor. He’s been terrible on TV and showed himself not yet ready for prime time. In that business you only get one chance, so yes...he’s done.

Not necessarily - if Pence would reflect on how Ronald Reagan would have handled the problem and then act in that manner, he would be getting loud and strong support from the general population and drown out the whining voices of liberals. Be strong, be clear, be truthful.

If the legislation was not meant to reaffirm that businesses can refuse service to anyone based on religious grounds then what was the point of the legislation? It seems that Pence is trying to turn the intent of the legislation on its head by saying that it mandates that businesses cannot refuse service to anyone for any reason. Tail wags dog. Civilized society takes another hit.

I like to call it, the week the homosexual commie piggies in the state controlled “media” distracted the people away from Queen Hillary’s Server problems or Hey! Look Over Here! Week.

It is probably more practical now for Hoosiers to deluge members of their State Legislature, with expressions of outrage at the very idea of waffling in any way on their defense of freedom of conscience & personal liberty in Indiana. Hopefully Pence will wake up and start acting like a principled man, again. But the real fight now will be in the Legislature.

Please! I am not trying to tell our good neighbors in Indiana how to act. My suggestion is directed towards those who agree with Conservative American (& Indianan) values; and is offered from the perspective & experience from many decades of fighting the Leftist blight on Twentieth & Twenty-First Century America.

“Progressives” have become what they once claimed to despise… petty, judgmental, holier than thou moral busybodies.

But increasingly thugs & bullies with the moral compass (or lack of it) of Hitler's enforcer & second in command, Ernst Roehm, who broke heads in the streets of German cities, on the path to totalitarian power.

Progress is a virtually meaningless term, without a clear understanding of direction. The American Left's direction has never been based upon a study of history or of the realities of human existence. It has always been based upon a cloud-borne wish list, and a Compulsion For Uniformity. Put another way: The same neurotic impulses that drove the infliction of Bolshevik lunacy on Russia & Nazi lunacy on Germany, are very much alive & "well" in Obama's America.

Man, I sure as hell wouldn’t want Pence as president. If he quails before a tiny group of noisy deviants, just think how he would behave when having to deal with the likes of Iran, ISIS, Putin and Red China.
