Shooting at Fort Meade after driver tries to ram gate, police say

A driver of a vehicle tried to ram a gate at the National Security Agency building in Fort Meade Monday morning, resulting in a shooting, authorities say.
It is not clear if anyone has been injured. There are two vehicles with damage outside the gate.
Anne Arundel County police say the National Security Agency is handling the investigation, WUSA9 reports. The incident happened around 9:30 a.m. local time.

That makes more sense, since the lane in which the black SUV is located appears to be the exit side of Samford Rd. leading off the base and back onto Rt. 32.
Did the now-ventilated SUV driver (and pax) perhaps make a wrong turn off of Rt. 32 leading to the base, realize their mistake when it was too late to turn around, go through the checkpoint (without stopping, because they knew that they had contraband in the car?), then head back outbound by cutting across the turnaround beyond the checkpoint, only to be intercepted with extreme prejudice there?

When I was on active duty at Fort Lewis with the now decommissioned 9th ID from 1980-84 a car tried to ram through the gates at the ammunition holding area (AHA) where emergency deployment ammo was kept. The pfc with the M16 didn't hesitate, he popped the driver through the windshield and right through the head several times. No muss, no fuss, except in the aftermath and the kid, correctly so, not only never got in trouble, was praised highly for doing his duty and doing it well. As was the entire chain of command for maintaining the training standards and keeping the emphasis on realism.
