There is nothing quite like the petty despotism of the public school system. A boy from McMinnville, Tennessee, was suspended after coming to Bobby Ray Memorial Elementary School with a haircut deemed inappropriate by the principal. It was a "high and tight" military-style haircut that the boy had requested so that he would look more like his step-brother, an active-duty soldier.
The principal did not budge, leaving the boy's mother no choice but to shave his head so that he could come back to school.

Should have worn a Muzzie beard. That would be acceptable.
So I can come over to your house and tell you what to wear and how to cut your hair? No objections, right?
No. But if I attend your school or work for your business, my soul won't be crushed if you tell me to get a haircut.
Why is this principal even allowed near children? This is child abuse of the worst kind!
This isn't MY school or YOUR school , it is a PUBLIC school. They have NO right to do this. Parent's prerogative.
“... Isn’t a child’s hair the parent’s prerogative?”
I agree. Once again, a school tries to become the parent by force or threat of expulsion/suspension over a parent decision. For what it is worth, my elementary school doesn’t care one bit. There are several boys (of Native descent) that have long hair. One little boy has a faux mohawk. No one cares... because my school focuses on behavior and grades more than fashion styles. It’s just hair... as long as it is clean (ergo no lice).
So you're for no dress codes at public schools. What a clown fest that would be.
I guess a little fascism is a better way to go, hmm?
Any boys with long below the shoulder hair in the school? That’s also distracting.
If it were truly a "public school"...the public would be making that decision, not some self-serving six-figure control freak.
OMG!!! Freedom and parental rights? How does anyone get through the day in one piece? LOL!
This article is nothing but an inflammatory distraction from real issues. The school has a policy against “Mohawks” or “extreme haircuts” which is probably going to be rethought now. It was never meant to be a slight against the military. The worship director at our church has a Mohawk type of haircut which I personally find to be distracting, but he seems to think that it helps him look “cool” and attract more youth participation.
There’s a cancer in public schools that needs to be excised. Thankfully I was home schooled. By the best.
Sounds like this principal needs a “header”.
Common sense has gone out the window. Clean, no lice and not falling into and covering the eyes so the child can see, makes sense.
You're either hyperbolic by nature, or you have no concept of what fascism really is. The constraints of society must "crush your soul" daily.
She DID have a choice - a combination of choices.
HOMEschool while suing the cretins
there are no public schools... they have not existed for a long time now... they are government schools... once people realize that, they will know what to expect...
wrong... it is government school... the government makes the decisions...
:) I am wondering if our county schools don’t make a big deal out of hair because it is very diverse. Between black styles, Hispanic styles, Asian styles, White styles... and so on... there really isn’t a way to decide one or two “hair styles”. The bottom line to the story (IMHO) is a principal who is anti-military and promoting an anti-military school environment. I think that is being glossed over in favor of a “distracting” hairstyle rule.
