The article linked in Post 36 suggests an A320 is at risk of structural failure at about 380 knots “Indicated Airspeed”.

Indicated Airspeed explained here:

Probably not!

US airlines already have this possibility under control.

Look up homicidal ideation. Video gamers can play out various fantasies, and for a person who has a homicidal ideation situation...games like World of Warcraft allow them to play out the idea. In this case, the guy likely went to the next step and wanted to kill a massive body count. He wasn’t functioning in the same world as you or I.

If you look at plain suicidal guys/gals....they tend not to involve others in their situation.

This guy was exceptionally different.

Around five years ago in Germany....we had a gal around Christmas who intently walked across the Autobahn near Ramstein and arranged for herself to get hit by a car with two AF folks. It wasn’t just a suicidal thing....she wanted involvement of others as well. Killed the nutcase in that case, and two AF folks survived but it was a hard experience on both.

Maybe it’s the difference between 10 feet of soft overburden and totally solid mountain granite. That’s my guess.

Relating to your observation, just picked this up on Twitter:

Breaking News ‏@NewsOnTheMin

CEO of Lufthansa says US requires a flight attendant to go into cockpit when pilot left alone; no such European regulation.

Just a bet....we will find that he’s a gamer somewhere along the way....just a hunch.

Gamer; or muslim convert; or homo; or all the above.

Each member of the cockpit has his own microphone, so they knew it was the co-pilot who remained inside.

Well yeah, that’s a given. He needed a psych eval that’s for sure based on his last actions. Why there were no warning signs is troubling though. Unless there were warning signs and they are trying to keep it quiet.

Wrong!

Federal regs are what prohibit the keys from existing.

According to the news reports, it took 8 minutes to descend 32,000 feet before hitting the mountain. That’s a rate of 4,000ft/min. That’s a very steep decent. What I would like to know is at what speed would the plane break up in midair. The debris field looks too wide for a mountain impact.

Good question does anyone know the answer?

And note the intriguing clue of an impact before the main impact.

Did the plane clip the top of an earlier mountain? But then wouldn't they have noticed that by now?

Or did it hit another object before striking the mountain? A bridge? It doesn't look like there are any bridges in that area. A tree? Would it be big enough to cause that impact noise? Or another airplane? Another airplane couldn't be civilian because we would have noticed the disappearance so it would have to be military. Was that the object?

Maybe. I’m no expert. It just seems like a lit of airplane confetti as the press calls it. Thanks for your input.

According to the youtube video it has 3 electrically activated deadbolts and the door itself is rather robust.

There will be warning signs coming out IMO...And they’ll find what his motive/problem was, which had to be eating him up. Again, just a hunch.
