The only good thing I can say about this is, if we stop the illegal entry of uneducated, unskilled people that are only here to take advantage of all the “free” welfare benefits and instead import only skilled workers that will work and not be getting billions in fraudulent income tax returns, it’s a start.
Any employer wanting to hire them should have to prove that they are unable to find a qualified citizen to fill the position first.
He wouldn't be arguing for such a seemingly "no-brainer negative" thing unless it wasn't as big of a no-brainer as convention has it, and as usual, conventional thinking has it wrong, and Cruz has it right.

Another approach, of course, is to assume that all business owners are dirty no-good bastards who cannot be trusted because they'll throw America to the ash heap in search of cheap labor. THAT sounds like a leftist to me, but it is the knee-jerk attitude of many Republicans who resent every immigrant who has a job in the U.S.

I'd be happiest (my pony) if he said, "Minimum wage laws and cumbersome government regulation make it a losing proposition for American companies to hire teenagers and low-skilled people, a vast resource of American workers, so those jobs primarily go to illegal immigrants in whose nations our minimum wage is a substantial income. Government welfare like food stamps, subsidized housing, free education and medical care, given to illegal immigrants make the problem worse. Get rid of minimum wage laws, and watch a large percentage of the illegal immigration problem melt away."

They seem to be pleased with his position. I have not considered Computerworld a political publication, but I have not subscribed for a number of years, so perhaps they have changed their emphasis.

I could see how the “business development” visas (they are H-5 or something like that) could create jobs, but I really fail to see how H-1B visas benefit US citizen workers.
Regardless of the reasons and detail that Cruz is tied to this, he needs to come clean on his view of H1B. I’d be happiest if he said this was not his position, that it evolved, etc., that’d be fine. Especially if he said that so long as there is an American looking for a job, no employer should be allowed to import foreign workers. For most of IT, there is truly no shortage of qualified or easily trained workers. They just come at foreign worker rates.
Given the choice as to whether we bring in relatively well-educated and skilled people, as opposed to near-illiterates (in their own language, even!) whose English skills are minimal at best, and largely unskilled in much other than manual labor, I would opt for the skilled, as they shall supplement our labor force in a much underserved segment, and they have great promise of being useful and not become a burden on the economy, demanding services greatly in excess of their contributions.
I see what you are saying, except that a whistleblower from Infosys claimed they are not highly talented....and US workers are training them as the replacements....
Not sure our economy can stand the turnaround time that the jobs you claim would be generated from new startups, etc. People are hurting now—legal immigration needs to be carefully controlled—not just catered to the needs of big Tech business and the Chamber of Commerce.
There is another explanation: YOU DIDN'T WATCH THE VIDEO AT THE SITE. This not "cheap foreign labor" he's talking about. HE's talking about skilled science, technology, engineering, and mathematics workers. Now, for every 1.9 job openings, there's only one American qualified to fill it. America has shortage of those kinds of workers. And HELLO, have you looked at today's college grads? They're badly educated!!!
Really, America has regulated its marketplace such that American youths, teens, kid, young adults, and low-skilled folks, are prevented from apprenticing into companies that need them, and companies are hammered and punished and fined for employing them at their market value. Teenagers have zero opportunity to learn a business ethic -- that you get paid more the more valuable you become. I really do think that a huge proportion of Americans illegal immigrant-employment problem, is linked to onerous minimum wage and employment regulation and restrictions.

We’ve got to stop insisting upon a perfect conservative candidate. We’ve got to stop letting the news media manipulate us in this regard. Every man will have some flaws. But I don’t think we will find anybody as good as Cruz.
BTW, you may very well be right, and I am not saying it is a make-or-break issue, but for me personally, this is a big deal and I would like clarification. I went to his website and saw no place to ask questions and no one answered the phones, so I am asking here.

Tens of millions of U. S. Citizens either unable to find work, or having given up, it sure is enlightening to see a man that thinks we need more foreign workers to displace even more U. S. Citizens.
If this is his view, it seems as if we’ve found another political figure on crack.
