Despite being vehemently opposed to Obamacare, Ted Cruz is signing up for insurance under President Obama’s health care law.
The Texas Republican Senator and newly-announced presidential candidate, known for his staunch opposition to the Affordable Care Act, told CNN on Tuesday that he will be joining the millions of Americans enrolled in insurance under the law.

OK but where does that leave the rest of us who loathe and despise Obamacare and have absolutely no intention of acquiescing to it, IRS penalties notwithstanding?
Where does that leave the effort for states to reject and nullify Obmamcare and other unconstitutional federal acts?
It’s hard to imagine acquiescing to Obamacare and then denouncing those (in Congress, but by extension everyone else) who haven’t helps the cause of rejecting and nullifying unconstitutional and invalid federal laws.
I’m sorry - if you can’t understand what he’s doing - he’s making a political statement - then you will never be happy about it. You disappoint me.

He was not saying YOU should sign up. Are you off your meds? Political statements are political statements....not instructions to you....hell, he tried to get the law repealed, tried to get the law defunded....he’s fighting to give you the options you want, and all you can do is carp about his tactics? Wow, just wow wow wow.

Let’s face it. The power grab at the federal level is well known by politicians. The governors and legislatures are more than aware of it, so is Congress, so are the courts. Yet for the most part they’ve done nothing about it. So who will?
A lot of folks, including Ted Cruz, are drawing parallels between him and Ronaldus Magnus. And there are. But I think they’re looking too much at the 1980 race and not the 1976 race, the aftermath of which saw some very interesting chamges in how politics at the grassroots level was pursued.
You’re basically correct. There are some exceptions, such as for those who are part of a medical sharing ministry, those who have a hardship, etc. but by and large your choice is get a policy or pay a fine.
Ted Cruz is a brilliant lawyer and he has smart people,working for him. If he wanted to avoid deathcare, he could. He obviously doesn’t want to. Thus he most likely has a card or two up his sleeve that he wants to reserve for future play.
It’s OK to carp about tactics. You don’t have to get cancer to show its a disease. And you don’t have to sign up for an unconstitutional act to show its unconstitutional.
If you can get over your astonishment that somebody can be be for somebody can still question his tactics, maybe we can talk intelligently. If not, maybe another time.

Heidi’s coverage for all four of them, in NYC probably, doesn’t have any networks in Houston for the Cruz’ to utilize, so no COBRA. This will help Ted with his argument for across-state-lines underwriting proposal.

I agree with a few posters on this thread ... this was a brilliant move :-). It should pay off later. It keeps him in the news now.
He has to make a joke out of the lunatic left. This is a great first step. People will listen to his first hand experience with this farce of a law. Get enough to agree and the message will resonate w/o any dependence on the media.
I *really* hope he finds a way to drive home the point that the far left are the genuine “extremists” in this country. That’ll be another thing that drives them bonkers. They know they’re the revolutionaries that act like innocents ... once he starts to shine the light on those morons, they’ll become the stark raving mad moonbats in public more often than not.

That leaves you with the medical sharing ministries or obtaining a waiver. There are also those who have pointed out that the law does not allow the IRS to take collection action if you don’t pay the fine. All they can do is apply it against any refund you would have otherwise gotten. Personally I think the medical sharing ministries are the best option, but your results may vary.
I stumble on that “talk intelligently” part. I’m not conceding that you are doing that. I’ve no problem that you question his tactics, but you kept going back to “so what am I supposed to do?”

I’m hoping he does have some kind of ace in the hole. Beyond that, maybe none of the exceptions apply, and he doesn’t want a legal charge leveled at him.

The law specifically requires members of Congress to buy insurance from the exchanges. It does not exempt them from doing so.
New strategy, any time a lib says anything bad about Cruz... simply accuse them of racism! (make them see how it feels after doing it to us over Obama)
