It's going to be hard for the Republicans to field a presidential candidate as enthusiastic about the H-1B visa as U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas). Cruz, who announced his presidential bid this morning, once proposed an immediate increase in the base H-1B cap from 65,000 to 325,000. Cruz offered the H-1B increase as an amendment in 2013 to the Senate's comprehensive immigration bill.

That’s already the law. When I worked at the state unemployment office a long time ago, I searched for candidates to fill such job orders all the time.

What I find funny is people who bash Cruz for his H1-B stance (if that’s even his position) because they think it hurts them, but sneer at the Iowa farmers and their ethanol subsidies. It all just depends on whose ox is being gored.

You may disagree with the studyI do - the question they asked was In states with more immigrants, are US natives more or less likely to have a job? The answer is "more" - but there are obvious explanations other than 'H-1Bs cause more jobs', for instance that both are signs and consequences of general economic health. That Cruz would fail to notice this doesn't say much for his vaunted intellect.

American STEM workers don't want cash handed to them - they just don't want Third World wages to displace their own nor to be required to train the displacers (whose need for training proves they're not 'just as good').

he was doing strategic killing of a bad billWelcome to the majors, Ted - if you're not currently supporting H-1B expansion you need to get out in front of this and quickly.
If and when he does so, I'm back on board.

A person forced to train a foreign replacement for his job is not the same as forcing every person in the country to buy ethanol laced gas. Ethanol mandates effect everybody. H1B only effects a tiny percentage of people.

So growing corn and all that goes with it is having “cash handed to you” now? I’m guessing you’ve never been a farmer or rancher, right?

RE :”
So we should import Third World living standards into this country - and make American workers train the coolies who are undercutting them. No sale.” Where I live in Maryland the immigrants from India and Korea come here with college educations and get high tech jobs , or open businesses, make their kids study and get As to go to college, while the white American adult kids work at Denny's and live with mom and dad.
But they know who won the Grammies

It’s the law, you either sign-up, pay a fine or have an alternative. You somehow didn’t know that?
