Vitamin D can slow down or even reverse the initial prostate cancer or tumours without the requirement for surgery or radiation, says new research.
While the researchers are not sure at this stage about the connection, they said vitamin D can at least slow down the multiplying nature of the tumour, which is crucial in initial stage prostate cancer.
In many cases when the biopsy is taken, it requires 60 days for the inflammation from the biopsy to subside for an operation and during this supplements of vitamin D would be helpful, while under active surveillance, said researchers.
We do not know yet whether vitamin D treats or prevents prostate cancer, said Bruce Hollis from the Medical University of South Carolina. At the minimum, what it may do is keep lower-grade prostate cancers from going ballistic.
In their clinical trial, the team studied 37 men undergoing elective prostatectomy with one group receiving vitamin D and the other in the placebo group.
Those who were on Vitamin D supplements showed improvements in their prostate tumours and those in the placebo group remained unchanged. Even the expression levels of many cell lipids and proteins in the first group were improved considerably.
Cancer is associated with inflammation, especially in the prostate gland and Vitamin D is really fighting this inflammation within the gland, Hollis noted.
The group has presented its findings at the 249th National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society (ACS) in Denver, US.

Good catch, that much sounds like it could be toxic.

re sunscreens
I had personal negative experiences with sunscreens over 20 yrs ago. Caused sun poisoning and pre-cancerous lesions.
Sun screens are designed to ‘protect’ the skin from the sun.
Try keeping the sun from your house plants or gardens. What will happen?
The sun is the earths -and every living thing on it - life-giver.
I trust the Creator/Ma Nature before man, his chemicals and his money making motif . One of my ‘thumb rules” is: Is this product safe to eat/consume? If not, I don’t want it on my skin. Anything put on the skin - the body’s largest ‘organ’ - is absorbed into the body.
Here’s link to videos re sun-screens.

I’ll stop eating yogurt, too. After I finish off what I’ve got. LOL
Thanks.
I didn’t know, Cod Liver Oil comprises a lot of the healthy substances. Fairly cheap at the drug store, $6; I see they are even now making fermented versions which drives the price up quite a bit. I haven’t tried it but after this winter, I know, I need to keep up with vitamins.

Good for you for being persistent.
Today, we must all take primary responsibility for our health - as the medical profession isn’t what it used to be.
Fortunately, the internet can provide much professional research - even though we need to be careful in what we accept for advice...
But it has saved me from 3 separate surgeries and from prescribed drugs that ended up taken off the market for killing people!
Once you hit 45-50, you should be taking 10,000 iu or more and have your blood checked for it. Normal range is 27 - 100. Much better for men to be closer to 100 than 27.
It has been found that men with lower Vitamin D3 are significantly more likely to get prostate cancer.
Combining high dosages of D3 with Calcium, and taking 500 mg of Metformin helps many men greatly slow down the growth of advanced prostate cancer.
