Republican Senator Ted Cruz plans to announce on Monday that he will run for president in 2016, the Houston Chronicle reported on its website.
The newspaper, citing senior advisers to the Texas senator who spoke on condition of anonymity, reported that Cruz would launch a presidential bid outright rather than the traditional path of forming an exploratory committee.

Yes, Senator Cruz is very good at slinging red meat and preaching to the Tea Party choir. At some point during the campaign, he's going to have to figure out how to sell himself to people who don't post on Free Republic.
Thank you very much for posting that. I will have to do a little more research and reconsider.
Agreed...thought it was a great interview...right to the point on a number of topics.
It’s great to see him in.
But I hope that he and Walker fight it out aggressively THIS YEAR and one emerges as the clear conservative choice.
The system is oriented towards individual plurality, not collective majority. If Christie doesn’t make a real run for it, Bush gets 90%+ of the moderate vote. If Clinton has no real opposition, tons of people will vote on the Republican line in favor of the GOP moderate(s).
If BOTH of these conditions apply (Hillary effectively unopposed, Christie not a significant factor), than Bush is essentially assured of the nomination before March 1st if both Cruz and Walker are dividing up the conservative vote.
Sorely needed candidate that talks the talk, and is willing to walk it.
“Yet he got a lower percentage of the 2012 Texas vote than Mediocre Mitt.”
THIS is your knock on Sen Cruz? You have got to be kidding me? Cruz was running in a 9 person primary against a Goliath in Texas politics, sitting Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst. He gathered enough votes to get into a runoff with Dewhurst and Sen Cruz beat Goliath in the runoff?
Can Sen Cruz defeat Goliath? He has for.
Moreover. BECAUSE Sen Cruz defeated Dewhurst in 2012, there was blood in the water. Dewhurst faced a four man primary for his Lt. Gov (the most powerful elected position in Texas) job in 2014 and lost to State Sen Dan Patrick (arguably tea party and definitely outsider).
Ted Cruz set the stage in 2012 to retiring Dewhurst in 2014.
Everything I hope to see in a 2016 Cruz candidacy has been done before, in 2012 and 2014 in Texas as a result of Sen. Cruz’ tenacity as a candidate.
If this is all you got, you got nothing. I’ll be sending Presidential Candidate Cruz $1000.00 this week, and more is coming.
My one and only concern, not really a complaint, is that I think he needs to me more assertive in the masculine sense during his speeches. He seems to me to be pleading, as in court(I know, he is a lawyer). The American voter has had sissy boys for far too long, especially the Republican side.
No bigger sign than a major turnout in funding the week of the announcement.
All I’m saying is that Mediocre Massachusetts Mitt is one of the most reviled RINO GOPe candidates on FR.
So if a guy with a Latino name in deep red Texas ran behind Mediocre Massachusetts Mitt in November 2012 (and I’m NOT talking total votes, I’m talking PERCENTAGE of the vote) I’m wondering about how he’ll do on a national basis in places like Ohio and Florida which are keys to victory.
We’ll know soon enough.
In 2012, Ted Cruz was still building name ID in Texas as a statewide candidate. He rise out of a field of nine candidates, including at least two that far eclipsed him in name ID: Lt. Gov Dewhurst and ESPN personality Craig James. And he won. If winning is your problem with Sen. Cruz, i can live with that.
And now?
Come down to Texas and ask people about our junior Senator.
If you think that name ID and vote during his breakout year translates to how voting will go in 2016, you’re in for a surprise.
If Cruz announces tomorrow; expect to see FR’s contingent of house liberals and concern trolls all over the place tomorrow evening.
And the Texas Primary is early this year: March 3rd. (As opposed to the June Primary in the 2012 election that you’re so fond of discussing).
I’d hope the typical Texas Republican voter would be more enthusiastic about ANY Texas R candidate with a detectable pulse vs. a Massachusetts RINO who pioneered Obamacare.
I see that Tokyo Rove’s coven of concern trolls have already been unleashed at The Blaze and other forums...LOL!
This is awesome !!! I’ve been waiting for this since the day Ronaldus Maximus left office. I’m all in, it’s time. Ignore the MSM, spread the word and build unwavering support. He’ll win.
Seems like a no brainer, but no clue that it's in motion at all.
Mr. Walker, a good man, has the charisma of a store mannikin.
In your opinion.
Cruzing to losing because he was born in Canada
You can’t compare him to that other “senator,” who had a claim to fame as a community organizer. It’s like night and day.

I can compare and contrast him to Obama.
Obama has made a career out of trashing and destroying the US Constitution and the founding principles in order to “fundamentally transform” America.
Cruz has spent a massive amount of time successfully defending and upholding the constitution and the founding principles, in order to preserve the republic.
Please don’t tell me you think Cruz will do that.
