The US must release photographs showing abuse of detainees in Iraq and Afghanistan, a federal judge has ruled in a long-running clash over letting the world see potentially disturbing images of how the military treated prisoners.
US district judge Alvin Hellersteins ruling Friday gives the government, which has fought the case for over a decade, two months to decide whether to appeal before the photos could be released. The American Civil Liberties Union has been seeking to make them public in the name of holding government accountable.

What could go wrong?
Why does the ACLU file such stupid lawsuits? What exactly is gained by releasing these photos?
As the photos are released, let’s also make sure to broadcast far and wide beheadings and burning people alive as done by ISIS. It’s important to provide context and contrast. Whatever we did is certainly not nearly as atrocious as what ISIS and Islamic terrorists do.
“What exactly is gained by releasing these photos?”
I think the idea is to prove how morally superior the Left is and how morally bankrupt the Right is. They’d never sue to release, say, Hilary’s emails.
Rest assured that the American Soviet Media will push ISIS atrocities off the stage and show these photographs every single day.
What does the administration need to distract attention from?
Exactly my first thought. They will be released during some type of horrible event someplace in the world.
Did Iran ask for this ?
Outside the courts jurisdiction. It is a legitimate function of the executive branch since the AUMF has not expired.
Thanks for posting.
They side with Obama to make the US out to be the enemy. Like my favorite actor of all time James Woods said last month....
"If we ever capture the ISIS thugs who burned a heroic pilot alive, let's pray we don't pour a cup of water on his face. That would be cruel."
This is the mentality we are dealing with. Forcing these animals to wear underwear on their heads or getting a cup of water in the face is considered more evil to these liberals than burning someone alive or beheading them. Who thinks like that? Enemies of freedom loving people do. That's the kind of rat filth we are dealing with and they get away with it because nobody confronts them. Nobody gets in their face and tells them to stick it where the sun don't shine.
At first I thought this was a 10 year old Bush era story...I clicked the link...Sure enough. More idiocy from the anti-Americans. As if the Middle east isn’t messed up enough. Just in time to bring out the “Bush’s fault for Jeb.
This is being done to remind everyone how bad Bush and a Republican president would be
What do they always say? If you’ve got nothing to hide...
I wonder if the media will make this out to be worse than beheadings.
I don’t believe we should have taken any prisoners. We should have dumb bombed them to death.
