Well, we may not even need to exterminate them. Let’s take a page from Douglas Adams. In one of his books, he describes a planet, where the useful people in society decided to rid themselves of the less useful people (sorted by profession, people like beauticians and “telephone sanitizers” were in the less useful group).

What they did was to fake a planetary crisis that would spell impending doom. Then, they built a giant spaceship, supposedly the first of 3, and then assigned spaces on the ship based on profession. Of course, all the nonessential professions were given the “honor” of being on the first ship to depart, and there never was a plan to build the other 2 ships, because there was no real crisis to begin with :)
