Letters needed to stop assisted suicide bill

As we feared, the most egregious bill introduced this session is Senate Bill (SB) 128, a concerted effort to legalize physician-assisted suicide. Despite failing to pass similar laws five previous times in California, supporters of these so-called “Death with Dignity” laws have been emboldened by both a national effort to expand legalized physician-assisted suicide from coast to coast, and by the high-profile case of a 29-year-old California cancer patient who moved to Oregon to end her life there.

While many such cases are tragic, just three states have succumbed to the legalization efforts of pro-death forces. Only Oregon, Washington and Vermont currently allow this heinous practice.

The first hearing on SB 128 (Wolk D-Vacaville) is set for Wednesday, March 25 before the Senate Education Committee. If the bill passes there, it will then head to the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Currently, Oregon allows assisted suicide for those with 6 months to live. Legislation has been submitted to extend that to one year. The slippery slope . . .

Good people, perhaps meaning well, tortured Brittany Maynard in her final days. This legislation is a direct result. They forced her to move to Oregon while she was in the dying stages. They did nothing to comfort her. They offered no solace. They offered no pain relief. They condemned her to a pain that morphine couldn’t mask.

I AM BRITTANY MAYNARD.

Though I do have sympathy for Brittany's condition, I do not agree with her logic. I do not agree with suicide (self murder); and she can do it without government sanction - in which SB 128 is. If I were in her shoes and a non-believer in Christ's salvation, I would not ask someone else to assist me; I'd do it myself. Second, and as I had written in other post here (16-19 especially), SB 128 has immeasurable consequences for everyone here in California.

I AM BRITTANY MAYNARD

Frankly, if you are BRITTANY, I'll be praying for you as well. But be a man if you do commit suicide and do it yourself; keep a government out of it. DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE AS BRITTANY!

End of life decisions belong to the individual.

Oh, no they don't. Not when I make an "end of life" decision for you, to free up the contents of your wallet (or your 401k, or your SSAN balance, or whatever we're after today), and not when you decide to murder yourself.

Whichever way you point the gun, if it's done with intent, you're guilty of murder.

FRiend is right. This is a cynical campaign to cheapen life, to shorten it for some, so the cockroaches can get at the savings account, the insurance, the future-year savings on managed care.

Money's the motive behind this bill, not better pain relief.

Unfortunately, in the real world opening the door to assisted suicide seems to lead to non-consensual “euthanasia” and people feeling pressured and coerced to off themselves for a variety of reasons.

Gee, sounds a lot like abortion.

It all comes back to whether our ultimate source of authority is God or the Almighty I. In the past, cultural consensus maintained the former, under the presupposition that our lives belong to God. As we have foresaken God, we are putting ourselves in His place and will reap yet further judgment for changing that cultural consensus. People take God's love for granted and too little regard his awful Justice. If history is any guide, God judges nations as well as individuls - just open your Bible to any book from Genesis to Malachi.

Suffering is a part of life, a mark of countless saints, the adornment of our Lord himself, and to take only the good and none of the bad is to spit in the face of God.
