Today, the GOP Establishment control of the GOP machinery was overturned.
Here is my 'back from the trenches' description of what happened today, in DeKalb County, Georgia. In summary, Populist GOP Conservatives have seized control of the local GOP machinery.
Here's how it worked: A local Freeper who shall remain nameless invited me and quite a few other like-minded people to the Delegate Selection process meeting sometime last month. We all signed up as delegates. There was no competition, by signing up, we became delegates to a person. Other conservative-minded activists must have done the same thing. I do not know that definitively, but the results speak for themselves:
Today was the election of all of the local GOP party county representatives, namely: The GOP County Chair, 1st Vice Chair, 2nd Vice Chair, and 3rd Vice Chair; Treasurer, and Secretary.
It was a total sweep. The true-conservative candidates all won. The establishment candidates all lost. To my eye, the establishment folks all looked a little stunned. Establishment hand-picked and Establishment-endorsed candidates who spent money, were summarily defeated. The populist conservative guys and gals -- who spent next to nothing -- handily creamed them.
We even sent a nice hearty 'middle finger' to Johnny Isakson, the GOP establishment Senator from GA: Johnny has a long tradition of speaking at these engagements. Today, when the vote came up to make room for him, our populist district chair made a motion that instead of us stopping when he got here, he speak at the end .. when the business we were THERE for, was conducted. (As an aside, we ran out of time anyways, and would have been completely messed up if he had given his usual stemwinder). The motion carried by a good margin. Johnny was told this, and he refused to come after all. The rationale was "We don't want to interrupt your business," but I am personally confident that he had a short, two word, eight-letter phrase that was what ACTUALLY came out of his mouth, and the second word would have been 'them'. LOL
I'm glad it happened that way. First of all, we *did* run out of time. Secondly, Johnny Isakson is on notice: The DeKalb County GOP has been captured by conservatives. This is one of the most liberal counties in Alanta, so this is quite a win.
I did this so that your post # 2 would be outdated!
Nice win!
GRRRRRRRREAT news, Lazamataz! HOORAY to you, the nameless local FReeper and all of the like-minded delegates. OUTSTANDING!!! BTTT!!!
Hahahaha...I must say, even though I don’t often follow all of the the Lazamataz threads, every time I see that “Oh God please follow me” graphic when I load F!!ree Republic, it makes me laugh!
It sure does seem to hit my funny bone!
Congrats Laz! He did get to speak inGwinnett, but at least made it short. The establishment guy that came in to pick off the conservative lost by a landslide in the race for Chairman. I read somewhere that men in denim built this country and men in suits destroyed it. We were not going to let this suit use Gwinnett to put on his resume.
Nice! So it looks like Gwinnett is also a win!
My appreciation arises from the fact that I went around the dance floor with some other un-named “Done with the GOP” type and advised him to get in there and displace some RINOs...and BANG there you are.
There’s nothing at all with the Republican brand, history and platforms...except that it’s filled with disingenuous RINO double agents...and they need to be thrown out.
Thanks...keep up the good work.
Yay!
Please put me on ping list?
Love Laz....
Congratulations on a fine job. It's what the TEA Party movement should have done simultaneously across much of America in 2010 (less noise more organization). It would have made the institutional backlash we saw in 2012-14 much more difficult to muster. As it is, putting together a blueprint like this is very useful to those who will take the jump.
Thank you.
Well done.
You get a cookie.
Anyone taking point in Forsyth County? Among the most conservative areas in GA, but do want to make sure it _stays_ that way.
Good work, Laz. Down south, in Griffin, the Libertarians dominated again. All the normal conservatives, who did and do the actual work, quit last week. When these guys run the local party into the ground and don’t do any work, the real conservatives will return and resume building the local party.
Congratulations.
Make them howl.
